Harry Potter star Miriam Margolyes slammed over high asking price for Sydney rental property: ‘There goes 93 per cent of my salary’

Miriam Margolyes has been slammed by fans over the asking price to rent her Sydney property.

84-year-old actress famous for her role in Harry Potter is seeking to rent out her two-bedroom home located in Bondi, and she recently posted about it on Facebook to generate attention.

‘Rush to rent this gorgeous Bondi property,’ she captioned a post advertising the property listing.

On the contrary, certain enthusiasts found the weekly rental fee of $1,300 for the semi-detached house to be rather steep.

Gosh, dear Miriam, that’s quite the pretty penny for a two-bedroom flat without a parking spot, I’m afraid it’s beyond reach for many folks like myself who are passionate fans and admirers.

1st person commented: “That’s beautiful, but quite pricey,”

2nd person remarked: “That costs nearly all of my paycheck,”

3rd person joked: “Can I offer a Pez and a grin instead?

A fourth added a simple: ‘1300 a WEEK. Nope.’

As a trusted lifestyle advisor, I’ve been keeping an eye on the property market and found that the weekly rental rate for a typical two-bedroom home in trendy Bondi is around $1,245, making Miriam’s asking price slightly above this average.

On May 23rd, Miriam initially advertised the property, highlighting its ‘enduring charm’ and ‘graceful period details’.

This cozy residence boasts hardwood floors throughout, a dedicated laundry space, and a secluded backyard for privacy.

The Daily Telegraph reported that Miriam picked up the property back in 1984 for just $93,000.

In 2013, Miriam acquired Australian citizenship, and she now shares a beautiful residence in the NSW Southern Highlands with her longtime partner, Heather Sutherland, whom she has been with for 57 years.

In my lifestyle, I find a harmonious balance between the serene haven of Yarrawa Hill nestled within lush rainforests, and vibrant Clapham in South London. Notably, I offer my peaceful sanctuary at Yarrawa Hill for $500 per night, accommodating two individuals.

Later, when Miriam shared some aspects she found less appealing about Australia during an appearance on The Kyle and Jackie O Show in January, this followed.

She expressed her fondness for Australia, stating that she finds it extraordinary. However, she also mentioned concerns about its current state, likening it to global issues, as she put it.

Indeed, you’ll find that I hold it dear. As a matter of fact, I am proudly an Australian citizen. You see, I chose this path as my partner hails from this land, and I yearned for a closer bond with Australia.

‘But now I think my allegiance has slipped slightly and gone to New Zealand.’

Miriam shared one aspect of Australia she finds displeasing, commenting that the etiquette is somewhat impolite.

In the year 1967, Miriam and her partner Heather, who hailed from Australia, crossed paths for the first time while collaborating on a BBC radio play. This encounter took place shortly after Heather completed her academic journey at the University of Cambridge.

Since then, they’ve been a pair, and in her 2021 autobiography, “This Much Is True,” Miriam couldn’t help but express her admiration for their collaboration.

‘We have been together for 53 years. It is a big achievement,’ she penned at the time.

In contrast to me, Heather, who holds an academic title and is a scholar, tends to be more introverted, maintaining privacy and keeping her thoughts largely to herself.

Heather is a historian hailing from Australia, who previously served as a professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

In the year 2023, Miriam shared the mystery behind their 57-year long relationship during her visit on The Project.

She advised, ‘It’s important to always speak the truth, resolve disagreements before they linger, pay attention to what others are saying, and never risk your happiness by taking unnecessary chances.’

The Babe star expressed his viewpoint, stating that he finds adultery senseless. He also believes it’s a waste of valuable time. Instead, he emphasizes the importance of cherishing what one already has.

‘And if it really isn’t working, talk about it. But do it with kindness. That’s all I can say.’
