Katie Leung, known for playing Cho Chang in the Harry Potter films, has spoken about how challenging it was to grow up famous. She described the experience of becoming well-known as a child as ‘overwhelming’.
The 38-year-old actress, best known for her role as Cho Chang in the popular film series, recently shared her experiences with racist abuse in a new interview.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the incredibly talented actress, originally from Dundee, is joining the cast of Bridgerton! She’ll be playing Lady Araminta Gao in the upcoming season, and I, for one, can’t wait to see her bring that character to life. It’s going to be a fantastic addition to an already amazing show.
Oh my gosh, when she talks about becoming famous at sixteen, it just breaks my heart! She said she doesn’t even think she handled it, and honestly, I totally get it. She described it as just completely overwhelming right from the start, and she’s so right! Imagine being that young and already feeling insecure, and then everyone is looking at you? It must have been unbelievably hard, like, seriously difficult.
I was really enjoying myself back then. It felt like a break from school, which I didn’t like at all. It was a way to get away from everything, and I’m still trying to understand how it all impacted me.
In an interview with The Guardian, she said she wasn’t sure if there was anything that could have been done differently to improve the situation at the time.

When you’re that age, it’s natural to be curious. I definitely remember being very interested in what people thought of me, and I used to Google myself constantly. There was no stopping me, because I was old enough to decide things for myself.
She experienced terrible racist abuse, which she says made her more withdrawn and intensely self-conscious.
Last year, audiences got their first look at Katie in her newest role as Lady Araminta Gao in the Netflix show Bridgerton.
She appeared the very picture of an aristocrat, dressed in a stunning black gown and holding a black masquerade mask to shade her eyes.
I’m so captivated by Katie’s portrayal of this incredible woman! She plays a noblewoman who’s seen a lot of life – she’s been married twice and lost two husbands. Now, she’s focused on securing good futures for her daughters, Rosamund (played by the wonderful Michelle Mao) and Posy (Isabella Wei is just perfect as Posy!), by introducing them to eligible, wealthy bachelors. It’s a fascinating story!
This season will center on Benedict Bridgerton, portrayed by Luke Thompson, and the efforts of Lady Araminta to find him a suitable wife from among her daughters.
Katie recently mentioned that some Harry Potter fans might be surprised to see her play a mother to teenagers, considering she’s only 37 years old herself.

Leung explained to Refinery29 that during the Regency period, girls were often married as teenagers, making it believable that she would have teenage children if she lived then.
When talking about what makes her character so clever, she explained that she wouldn’t describe her as evil, because she genuinely likes her – she thinks she’s wonderful.
‘She’s just heavily misunderstood.’
The show’s costumes have been a real highlight for Katie, who’s suggested her character is incredibly stylish and has amazing taste in fashion.
She commented on the show’s costumes, saying they’re usually great, but this particular contestant’s were exceptional.
Netflix announced the release date for the highly anticipated fourth season of Bridgerton last October with a new trailer, but many fans expressed their disappointment.
Since its debut in 2022, Bridgerton has become a major success for Netflix. The show centers on the wealthy Bridgerton family and the romantic lives of their children as they navigate London’s high society.
The teaser trailer introduces a quick scene at a masked ball, hinting at the return of high society and the juicy secrets that will unfold this season.
Season 4 of Bridgerton is coming to Netflix in two parts. The first set of episodes will be available starting January 29th, and the second set will be released on February 26th.
The fourth season will center around Benedict, who is under pressure to find a wife now that both of his brothers are married.
He eventually seems to encounter a woman known as the ‘Lady in Silver’ at one of Lady Bridgerton’s masquerade balls.

Viewers immediately reacted to the short preview, and many voiced their disappointment that the season was being released in two separate parts once more.
They wrote: ‘whoever decided to start parting tv shows should be arrested.’;
‘I’ll be in a nursing home at the bingo table before the last seasons drop…’
‘Can we STOP parting shows in 2 parts? Omg.’
‘SOMEONE CALL THE POLICE ON NETFLIX FOR THE PART 1 & 2 BS.’
