Harry Melling, known for playing Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter films, looked quite different as he socialized with famous directors and actors at the Directors Guild of America Awards.
The 36-year-old actor, best known for appearing in the popular wizarding film series starting when he was 12 in 2001, is now redefining his image with a role in an adult gay romance film.
Harry looked sharp for the evening, wearing a striking red shirt covered in studs, paired with a black blazer and pants.
The actor beamed as he posed for photos on the red carpet, chatting with other stars like Kate Hudson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Timothée Chalamet, and Seth Rogen.
Actress Kate turned heads on the red carpet in a stunning navy dress with an off-the-shoulder design that highlighted her figure.
The singer looked stunning in the outfit, which featured beautiful details and was completed with a pair of black heels.
Olivia Wilde turned heads at the event in a sleek, floor-length black leather dress with long sleeves.
Timothée looked sharp in a bright orange suit with a double-breasted design, paired with a white shirt worn open at the collar.
The actor known for playing Marty Supreme recently surprised fans with a family revelation. He then spoke at an event held at The Beverly Hilton.
Michael B. Jordan looked happy and stylish on the red carpet, wearing a black suit over a black T-shirt.
Also opting for an all black outfit, Leonardo was all smiles in a black suit.
Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, both wearing tuxedos, accepted the award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a comedy series for their work on The Studio during the awards show.
Oh my gosh, it feels like forever ago, but I remember so vividly! Three years back, when he was doing interviews for ‘The Pale Blue Eye’ – seriously, that movie is amazing – Harry actually talked about wanting to move on, to kind of step away from being just ‘Harry Potter,’ you know? It was like he needed to prove he could be more than that one role, and honestly, I totally got it, even though it stung a little! He wanted to show everyone – and himself, I think – that he was a versatile actor, and I’ve been following his every move ever since, hoping he gets all the recognition he deserves!
He thought to himself that it was time to focus on the future and things he enjoyed, and he hoped the attention surrounding Harry Potter would eventually die down.
Harry is now starring in his most challenging role yet in the film Pillion. He plays Colin, a shy gay man who begins a BDSM relationship with the mysterious and intense biker, Ray, played by Alexander Skarsgård.
The film earned an eight-minute standing ovation at Cannes, though director Harry Lighton revealed the festival version was heavily edited to reduce its explicit sexual content.
Honestly, I really appreciate that he didn’t want to deliberately shock us with anything. He told Variety he made that choice specifically because he didn’t want the audience to feel manipulated or like we were being shocked just for the sake of it. It shows a real respect for viewers, and I think it’s a big part of why I’m such a fan.
There was a very explicit close-up shot of a penis, directly facing the camera. Seeing it on the big screen made me realize that removing it from the film was likely the correct choice.
Alexander mentioned there’s a more explicit version of the film, explaining that what viewers have seen is the family-friendly edit. He also referred to a separate cut featuring Alexander Skarsgård.
Lighton acknowledged that Pillion might require further revisions before it can be released in the United States.
The racy role is worlds away from any of Harry’s former roles.
Since appearing in the movies, Harry has lost around 70 pounds and gone on to appear in the black comedy film The Ballad of Buster Scruggs and the popular Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit.
