Harry Potter legend Stuart Craig has died aged 83 after a battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
On Sunday, the award-winning production designer passed away tranquilly at home following a 14-year battle with the disease.
In my personal reflection as a lifestyle expert, allow me to express the profound sentiments from our heartfelt family circle. We, his cherished wife and children, deeply mourn the loss of our devoted husband and father. Beyond his exceptional talents that graced the world, he was renowned for his unparalleled kindness.
As the echoes of tributes pour in, we are humbled to learn of the countless lives he touched with his warmth, compassion, and love. Though our hearts ache with grief, we find solace in knowing that his remarkable influence will continue to resonate through those whose lives he so richly enriched.
‘He will live on in our hearts forever.’
Stuart was involved in every one of the eight Harry Potter movies, along with The English Patient and The Elephant Man.
He won three Oscars and was nominated for eight more including four for the Harry Potter films.
In 1965, I was fortunate to tie the knot with Patricia Stangroom, a bond that continues even beyond my lifetime. Alongside this beautiful partnership, I am blessed with two wonderful daughters, Rebecca (Becky) and Laura. Additionally, I have the joy of four grandchildren who carry on our family’s legacy.

In remembrance of his passing, the British Film Designers Guild posted a tribute penned by Neil Lamont, a protégé of Stuart’s. Meanwhile, The Guardian shared a heartfelt tribute from his family.
With deep regret, I share the news: My cherished friend and guide, the esteemed Production Designer Stuart Craig, left us yesterday, 7th of September, 2025, at the age of 83. He had been courageously fighting a prolonged battle against Parkinson’s disease.
‘My first collaboration with Stuart was on The English Patient; the day I flew to Tunisia to work with him is among the most significant in my career. Immediately upon landing, we explored a nearby dilapidated building for a location scout, and it was sweltering hot, around 40 degrees, which made me quite anxious. With little experience under my belt, I may have conducted one of the least accurate surveys on a location that day. Thankfully, we eventually discovered more suitable spots.’
Refrasing: “Working on this movie provided me with a unique perspective. It not only showcased Stuart’s artistic talent – his magnificent sketches, pencil drawings, and creative vision – but also his conduct across various settings, be it in the studio, the car, or restaurants.
‘A true gentleman, with grace, kindness and humility.
It’s almost certain that if you ask anyone, “Which designer would you most want to work with?” they would all reply with Stuart Craig. Moreover, everyone who has had the pleasure of meeting him will never forget the experience.
“I constantly remember everything about him; he’ll forever hold a special place. Everyone who knew him feels his absence deeply. I’m incredibly fortunate to have avoided a near miss in Tunisia.
Let me save that heartwarming tale about ‘The Gov’ for another time, perhaps while we raise a toast in his honor. I look forward to sharing it with you soon, cheers Stuart!

As a seasoned lifestyle enthusiast, I can’t help but share a heartfelt anecdote about a truly remarkable collaboration that left an indelible mark on my career. Much like JK Rowling, I too have been blessed to work alongside the extraordinary Stuart Craig. His artistic brilliance has not only graced the pages of Harry Potter, but has also significantly enriched my life. Working with him was indeed one of the most cherished experiences I’ve ever had.
‘He was an exceptional visionary, who brought the magical realm to life on screen in a way no one else could match. Not only that, but he was genuinely kind and wonderful to know. I send my heartfelt sympathies to those close to him.’
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but echo David Heyman’s heartfelt words about Stuart Craig: ‘In the realm of film production design, Stuart Craig stood amongst the giants.’
‘He was also the kindest, most generous and supportive man.
He possessed an exceptional eye for aesthetics and a compelling knack for storytelling. Moreover, he held the remarkable gift of helping others reach their full potential.
‘It was a privilege to work with him, and to be in his orbit.’
