In a present-day world where people commonly use genetic enhancements, those who can’t afford them are forced to live in hiding. A small group of heroes rises up to fight for equality, but their revolution comes at a price. Altered, from the director of Iron Sky, Timo Vuorensola, and starring Tom Felton (known from the Harry Potter films), tells the story of a troubled Earth desperately seeking a savior.

‘Altered’ Is Slammed by Both Critics & Audiences Alike

The new film Altered has been widely criticized by both reviewers and viewers. Gregory Nussen from Screen Rant gave it a very low score of 2 out of 10, cautioning potential viewers about poor special effects, predictable thrills, and potentially controversial themes, as well as some unconvincing performances. Audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes reflect this negativity, with only 18% giving the film a positive rating.

Unfortunately, this movie doesn’t really offer anything new, but it does feature Tom Felton, best known for playing Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films. Thankfully, it avoids the pitfall of being a sci-fi about Nazis and is a brisk eighty minutes long.

Critics have raised concerns about the film’s handling of disability and its overall quality. Mark Dujsik of Mark Reviews Movies gave it a very low score, stating the film feels rushed and underdeveloped. Brian Orndorf from Blu-ray.com agreed, finding the story disjointed and the performances lacking, ultimately concluding that Altered simply doesn’t succeed.

While Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson have moved on from their roles in the Harry Potter films, Tom Felton has found it difficult to escape being known as Draco Malfoy—and his new show Altered isn’t changing that. In fact, he’s embracing the Harry Potter world even more by reprising his role as Draco Malfoy in the Broadway play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
