Harry Collett was supposed to look more like Jon Snow in House of the Dragon season 2

As a dedicated fan who has been following the epic saga of “House of the Dragon” since its inception, I must say that Harry Collett’s evolution from wig-wearing newcomer to seasoned actor with his own locks is nothing short of breathtaking!

In the second season of “House of the Dragon,” Harry Collett spent more screen time portraying Jacaerys Velaryon, also known as Jace, who is Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen’s son and heir in the series.

As accountability increases, so does a fresh appearance. In the first season, Collett was seen with a mullet-styled wig, which viewers quickly recognized. However, by the second season, he had the opportunity to let his natural hair grow long.

As a fan, I found myself cast rather swiftly in Season 1, and at that time, my hair was short due to insufficient time for it to grow before filming began. A wig became the sole solution, as there wasn’t enough time to create one for me. To make matters worse, they didn’t have a wig ready, so they grabbed one from storage and placed it on me. Honestly, I struggled with that wig during Season 1. As soon as they put it on me, we discussed the need for me to grow out my hair for Season 2. Consequently, I didn’t get a haircut for approximately a year and a half! My hair grew quite long, reminiscent of One Direction’s Harry Styles style. I hoped that they would use my own hair now, given all the trouble I went through. In fact, I experimented with seven different shampoos in the process.

This hair care is all new to me; I’ve never done it before. So I was really hoping for them to actually stick to their word, and use it. They cut the majority of it off, which I was really happy about because that in the summer was just dreadful. And Ros, who is in the hair and makeup team, put together a mood board to show to Ryan to pitch it to him. And it was just loads of Jon Snow pictures, which I thought was really cool, because I think they were trying to make me look like Jon Snow when I was on the Wall, which I think is really, really cool.

1. I’m curious if there will ever be photos of Collett with his extremely long hair appearing. On the other hand, among all the characters on the show, Jon Snow might be the most fitting comparison for Jace due to their shared characteristics as bastards born from royal lines. However, unlike Jon who was constantly reminded of his bastard status, Jace is unaware he’s a bastard. Conversely, Jon was actually a true-born Targaryen prince and didn’t know it. It seems they might be opposite versions of each other.

Regardless, I recall musing over the resemblance between Jace and Jon Snow, particularly during their interactions on the Wall at the start of the season, which seems to align with your work in styling and makeup, Ros. Mission successfully achieved!

Jace’s comeback will happen once HBO completes season 3 of “House of the Dragon,” a process that likely won’t start soon, perhaps as late as 2026. When he reappears, expect longer, natural tresses to be part of his appearance, marking the end of the era of wigs. Jace expressed delight about using his real hair for the role, saving him 45 minutes in makeup each day, and he won’t regret it. Neither will we.

Interestingly, it seems that Tom Taylor might now be the one sporting the most noticeable wig among actors. That initial scene featuring Cregan and Jace could almost symbolize a handover. Perhaps this means Taylor will let his real hair grow during the off-season.
