Harrison Ford, Angela Bassett, Miley Cyrus and More to be Honored as Disney Legends

As a movie enthusiast who has spent countless hours engrossed in the magical world of Disney, I can’t help but feel a sense of awe and admiration for this year’s Disney Legends class. Growing up, I remember Harrison Ford as Han Solo, the dashing rogue who stole my heart, and now he’s joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe – it’s like a dream come true!

Anaheim, California – Disney is set to honor 14 distinguished artists, such as Harrison Ford, Angela Bassett, and Miley Cyrus, by conferring upon them the title of “legends”. These individuals have significantly contributed to shaping Disney’s legacy.

The recipients, as stated by the company, are those who have made a “substantial difference” in Disney’s history. This group includes directors like James Cameron, renowned film composers such as John Williams, actresses such as Jamie Lee Curtis and Kelly Ripa, and many more individuals.

As someone who has been deeply involved with Disney for many years, I am genuinely excited about this year’s induction ceremony for the Disney Legends. Having attended numerous events like these in the past and witnessed the impact they have had on both the company and its fans, I can confidently say that this will be an evening to remember. Being held at The Honda Center in Anaheim, California during the D23 fan convention, it’s a perfect setting for honoring those who have made significant contributions to Disney.

I’m proud to announce that I’ve been welcomed into the prestigious ranks, just like director James L. Brooks and composer John Williams – two remarkable talents renowned for their work on the “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” sagas, respectively. It’s a humbling experience to be in such esteemed company.

20 years following his induction into the Hollywood Walk of Fame, iconic actor Ford will be re-immortalized with new signatures and handprints. He’s set to make a comeback in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing in the upcoming film “Captain America: New World Order.”

At Comic-Con International, during a panel focusing on upcoming Marvel endeavors, Ford showcased his physique to the thunderous audience, embodying his character’s transformation into the Red Hulk by doing so.

In addition to her roles in Marvel’s “Black Panther” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” renowned actress Angela Bassett is likewise receiving recognition. It’s worth mentioning that she currently graces the screen on ABC’s hit show, “9-1-1.”

Miley Cyrus, best known for her role in the Disney Channel series “Hannah Montana” from 2006, holds the title of youngest recipient for the Legends honor. After her stint on the sitcom ended, Cyrus has maintained a successful career in music and even received her first Grammy Award in February.

Curtis has appeared in her fair share of projects under The Walt Disney Studios banner, from “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” to “You Again.” She is set to reprise her role in the upcoming sequel of the fan-favorite movie “Freaky Friday,” opposite Lindsey Lohan.

Longtime TV network personality Ripa, a beloved host on ABC’s talk show, will once again team up with her former colleague Seacrest. With a career stretching over three decades, Ripa currently co-hosts “Live with Kelly and Mark” alongside her spouse, Mark Consuelos.

Additionally, Disney is acknowledging the efforts of six creative individuals who have played pivotal roles in pioneering movies, artwork, and magical Disney experiences.

Among those being honored are Colleen Atwood, an Academy Award-winning costume designer, Mark Henn, a well-known animator, Steve Ditko, the late comic artist famous for characters such as Spider-Man and Doctor Strange, Frank Oz, a renowned puppeteer and filmmaker, Martha Blanding, a veteran manager at The Walt Disney Company and Disneyland, and Joe Rohde, a former Disney Imagineer.

Notably, individuals like Elton John, Steve Jobs, Betty White, Dick Van Dyke, Robert Downey Jr., and Whoopi Goldberg have been bestowed with the Disney Legend title previously. Over 300 individuals have received this honor since the program began in 1987.
