Harlan Coben star’s twist-filled “Australian noir” drama that ‘keeps you guessing’ gets new UK home

The British television series, originally broadcasted on ITV in 2019 under the title Deep Water, has found its latest UK streaming platform as Amazon Prime Video, now showcasing it in their “Recently Added” TV category.

This intriguing drama series showcases a top-notch ensemble of television actors, such as Rosalind Eleazar from Harlan Coben’s latest work, “Missing You“, Anna Friel known for her role in “Marcella“, and SinĂ©ad Keenan recognized from “Unforgotten“.

Anna Symon authored “Deep Water,” a series that also has her television writing credits on shows like “Mrs Wilson” featuring Ruth Wilson and more recently, ITV’s “Joan” starring Sophie Turner. The plot revolves around three mothers juggling their busy lives while harboring hidden secrets, as suggested by the synopsis.

Upon its debut, “Deep Water” was likened to the blockbuster hits of HBO and Sky, “Big Little Lies,” although reviews were split. “The Guardian” noted that while the drama is engagingly watchable on a superficial level, it also gives off an air of implausibility.

The Scottish Herald stated that ‘Deep Water’ aspires to be like ‘Big Little Lies’ with rain boots, but after just one episode, it still needs significant improvement. On the other hand, The Standard described it as an ideal summer series to enjoy at the end of the season.

If you prefer, you could label it as ‘Australian noir.’ Similar to its Scandinavian counterpart, this story unfolds against a backdrop of sunny beaches instead of dark, gloomy cities. After giving your eyes some time to get accustomed to the brightness, you’ll find it quite captivating.

On IMDb, the audience appeared to have mixed opinions. One viewer called it a “solid,” “dark” drama that kept them guessing and engaged throughout, while another found it “truly worth watching” due to its “excellent twists and turns.” However, others argued that it was unrealistic and overly implausible.

Previously, Rosalind Eleazar commented on “Deep Water”: “It’s intriguing to observe three women who are remarkably complex, each facing unique challenges in their lives. The way they handle these difficulties is what truly makes it captivating.

In other words, Anna Friel emphasized that the series supports women’s roles, yet it doesn’t criticize or oppose men in its narrative.

Does she understand and show compassion towards women’s difficulties in balancing their careers and personal lives? Absolutely. However, at times, women may also make decisions that prioritize themselves over others when it comes to dealing with these struggles.” (She further noted.)

On ITVX, the movie “Deep Water” can now be found on Amazon Prime Video as well. This expansion might open up the film to an entirely different group of viewers.

Deep Water aired on ITV and ITVX and is streaming on Prime Video.
