The new series, Leonard and Hungry Paul, is now available to stream. Starring Laurie Kynaston, known for her role in Harlan Coben’s Fool Me Once, and Alex Lawther from Alien: Earth, the show centers around two men in their thirties who enjoy playing board games and find comfort in their simple, everyday lives.
You can now watch all six episodes of the series on BBC iPlayer.
The show follows Leonard, who writes children’s encyclopedias, and Paul, a postal worker who lives with his family, as they find peace and contentment in their simple, everyday lives.
What to Read Next
Following the sudden loss of Leonard’s mother, alongside his friend’s sister’s upcoming wedding and a potential new relationship for Leonard himself, both men find themselves facing a broader, more unpredictable world filled with new opportunities.
This story is based on a book by Rónán Hession, and one reader on Google loved it so much they said they didn’t want it to finish, calling it a heartwarming story full of love, friendship, and kindness.

They praised the writing as exceptionally beautiful and nuanced, saying some sentences were so well-crafted they deserved to be read twice. The work evoked strong emotions, making them both laugh and cry, and they described it as magical, eagerly anticipating a reread.
I’m so excited about this show! Not only do we have Kynaston and Lawther leading the way, but the cast is incredible! Julia Roberts, an Oscar winner, is doing the narration, which is amazing, and we’ll also see Jamie-Lee O’Donnell from Derry Girls, Helen Behan who I loved in The Virtues, Lorcan Cranitch from Bloodlands, and Niamh Branigan of Harry Wild all joining the fun. It’s going to be fantastic!

Richie Conroy and Mark Hodkinson created the series, and Andrew Chaplin directed it. Chaplin has described the show as a gentle contrast to many others, focusing on kindness, the beauty of everyday moments, and simple pleasures like playing backgammon, rather than dragons, mysteries, or heavy themes.
“Proof that not all heroes shout – some just know when to stay quiet.”
Leonard and Hungry Paul is streaming now on BBC iPlayer.
