Harlan Coben admits he’s anxious about turning his popular Myron Bolitar books into a TV show. He shared this on the Table Manners podcast with Jessie and Lennie Ware. Coben, known for novels like The Stranger and Missing You that have already been adapted for television, discussed the challenges of bringing his Myron Bolitar character to the screen.
Coben explained they’re still developing the series. He admitted it’s more difficult to move on from his Myron Bolitar character compared to his standalone novels. He pointed out that if viewers don’t connect with an actor or character in a single book, it’s a limited issue. But with Myron, who he considers a central part of his work and deeply personal, he’s anxious about how the series will be received, as he’s only written that character once before.
Myron Bolitar began his career as a basketball player before becoming a sports agent. Known for his quick temper but good intentions, he’s the main character in twelve novels by Harlan Coben, starting with Deal Breaker (1995). Myron often finds himself unintentionally solving unusual mysteries involving the people he represents.

Fans are sharing their appreciation for the character Myron on Reddit. One reader mentioned discovering Harlan Coben’s books in high school and quickly becoming a devoted fan, especially of the Myron Bolitar series. They described the books as amazing and read them all within six months.
“Love the Myron Bolitar series. I recommend it all the time,” agreed a second.
Harlan Coben explained to Jessie and Lenny Ware that some of Myron Bolitar’s life story is based on his own experiences. He shared that he lost his parents when he was young, and he views Myron’s parents as the versions of his own who lived.
I always pictured having a relationship like theirs, so I tend to experience life through what happens with them. I often get carried away with emotion when I think about it, and when I try to write about them, it comes across a little cheesy.

According to a May report from Deadline, Harlan Coben’s Myron Bolitar book series is being turned into a TV show. David E. Kelly, known for his work on Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer, is writing the scripts alongside others.
In a past interview, Coben shared that he felt especially connected to his character, Myron Bolitar. After partnering with Netflix in 2022, he explained that having written 34 books—with about a third featuring Bolitar—the character was particularly important to him. He expressed his satisfaction that the series was now with Netflix, allowing them to collaborate and create a high-quality adaptation.
