Harada to talk about Miary Zo in TEKKEN 8: Concept and design

The game director and producer recently talked about the new character in a Dev Talk video. Players are hoping future updates focus less on selling cosmetic items. Overall, the response to Miary Zo has been very divided.

Miary Zo, a new fighter from Madagascar, will be available in TEKKEN 8 through Early Access on December 2nd, and for everyone on December 5th. The development team is excited to showcase her and explain her unique fighting style.

So, Miary Zo was revealed at Evo last year, and honestly, the reaction was pretty mixed. A lot of us loved how she looked – her design is seriously cool. But some people were worried about where the game was heading with Season 2, and whether she fit into the overall plan. It was definitely a talking point!

The disagreement over these changes became more pronounced, even after Bandai Namco modified the character’s appearance. The release of gameplay footage only intensified the debate. Will Harada’s response be enough to resolve the conflict within the TEKKEN community?

TEKKEN 8 Dev Talk on Miary Zo: Video

This TEKKEN Talk isn’t a live broadcast; instead, Bandai Namco released it as a scheduled premiere on their official YouTube channel.

  • Tune in on Nov. 28 at 10 a.m. ET / 4 p.m. CET for the Miary Zo Dev Talk video to be available to watch.

Miary Zo in TEKKEN 8: The community’s excitement and disappointment

In a way, the release of Miary Zo carries an unnecessarily big role for TEKKEN 8.

Season 2’s initial release had some major issues. Players were frustrated with the balance changes and how the game played, and while developers have been fixing things, many are still unhappy.

Fahkumram’s release didn’t improve things. The Muay Thai fighter, seen as an unwanted character, failed to excite the community. Bandai Namco also revealed Armor King earlier than normal, likely to satisfy fans.

Miary Zo needs to turn things around after all the excitement surrounding Armor King dies down. She really needs to improve how people see Season 2. While she makes some progress, the character known as the “Waifu Ogre” doesn’t quite fully achieve that goal.

  • Some people are really excited about her unique concept: the use of the animals’ power. Miary Zo represents Madagascan culture. Sure, the girl is also pretty.
  • As for disappointment, other people claim her design to be too artificially anime-like and her appearance to be too generic. The moveset features too many options, making Miary Zo rather difficult. Reportedly, she has a variety of plus-on-block mixups and excessive strings, which follows the basic issues of Season 2 instead of solving them.

Even those who dislike Miary Zo have something to look forward to: Season 3 for TEKKEN 8 is coming shortly after this developer update. She’s the last downloadable character planned for the game’s second year. This announcement likely ties into the TEKKEN World Tour 2025 Finals, taking place January 30th to February 1st.
