Happy Valley star’s near-perfect BBC mystery thriller is now on Netflix

2019 marked the debut of the gripping crime drama “The Capture” on BBC One, and now you can catch up with its suspenseful episodes on Netflix!

The actors featured are Charlie Murphy from “Happy Valley”, Paapa Essiedu hailing from “Gangs of London”, Holliday Grainger known for “Strike”, Callum Turner starring in “Masters of the Air”, Indira Varma best recognized from “Doctor Who”, and Laura Haddock, a familiar face from “The Recruit”.

From the perspective of an enthusiastic viewer:

“I’m hooked on ‘The Capture’, a gripping series that follows Lance Corporal Shaun Emery (played by Turner), a former soldier who once faced a war crime conviction, only to see it overturned. Yet, he finds himself in a startling predicament as he’s accused of new crimes, this time with seemingly irrefutable CCTV evidence against him.

As a dedicated viewer, I can confidently say that the initial episode resonated strongly with me and fellow fans, drawing comparisons to Jed Mercurio’s gripping and widely-acclaimed series, Bodyguard. Starring the talented duo Keeley Hawes and Richard Madden, it was a captivating watch indeed.

In the current context, “The Capture” has an impressive almost-complete rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with a commendable 96% (derived from the opinions of professional reviewers) at the moment this text was composed.

The popular BBC show is set to return for another round in August 2022, offering fresh episodes along with some new faces joining the cast. While whispers of a third season circulate, an official confirmation is yet to be made.

In July 2023, series creator and director Ben Chanan refused to confirm or deny a possible comeback for the show, as reported by RadioTimes.com.

In November 2023, Paapa Essiedu was asked during an interview with Radio Times if he might consider reprising his role for a potential comeback of the series The Capture.

The actor mentioned that while he knows the series is deeply meaningful to its creator Ben Chanan, he can’t recall the story’s future. However, he enjoyed collaborating with Chanan and found the scripts to be exceptional.

Essiedu mentioned that character was fascinating and ended up in a captivating spot at the conclusion of the series. So, we’ll have to wait and see where his journey takes him next.

With the drama now on Netflix, we could be about to see an increased interest in a third season…

The Capture aired on BBC One and is now on Netflix.
