Happy Valley star joins new murder mystery based on beloved British novel series

As an ardent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming murder-mystery drama, “Murder Before Evensong,” adapted from the highly successful book series by the talented Reverend Richard Coles, has recently unveiled some intriguing new cast members.

Earlier, it was made known that Matthew Lewis would star as Canon Daniel Clement, and now we’ve learned who else will be part of this production along with him.

In Happy Valley, Amit Shah will portray Detective Sergeant Neil Vanloo; meanwhile, Amanda Redman from New Tricks will play Audrey, and Adam James, known for The Suspect, has been cast as Bernard De Floures.

Joining the cast list as well are Tamzin Outhwaite, who was recently on “Silent Witness,” Meghan Treadway from “One Day,” Nina Toussaint-White of “Showtrial,” Francis Magee known for his role in “Kin,” Marion Bailey, who has been on “The Crown,” and newcomer Alexander Delamain.

The news has come out that production is now actively happening, as they are currently filming in the United Kingdom’s West Midlands region.

In the heart of the tale, I, the story’s narrator, reside within the confines of Champton rectory, sharing my abode with my spirited, bold, occasionally pesky mother, Audrey, a woman who never shies from expressing her thoughts. And to add a touch of canine charm, there are my two dachshunds, Cosmo and Hilda, who bring their unique brand of companionship to our home.

As a devoted parishioner, I was initially excited about the proposed transformations in our beloved local church. However, these changes have unexpectedly stirred up the community, bringing to light long-suppressed truths that threaten to disrupt the tranquility of our peaceful village.

Subsequently, a corpse is discovered at the church’s rear, as mentioned in the summary. With the police investigating and more bodies accumulating, it falls upon Daniel to attempt to mend the broken community and apprehend a murderer.

The narrative has been reworked for the television series, Midsomer Murders, by Nick Hicks-Beach. The upcoming episodes will be helmed by director David Moore, who has previously worked on Fool Me Once, Outlander, and Shetland.

Reverend Richard Coles serves as an executive producer for the show, alongside other producers such as Radford Neville who has previously worked on “Scoop”.

The six-episode series is set to broadcast on Channel 5 and Acorn TV globally towards the end of the year 2025, though the specific airing date remains undetermined at this point.
