Happy Valley boss Sally Wainwright’s new BBC drama confirms cast

With Sally Wainwright at the helm, a powerhouse cast including Lorraine Ashbourne, Joanna Scanlan, Tamsin Greig, Rosalie Craig, and Amelia Bullmore, it’s shaping up to be a masterpiece.


In an exciting announcement, the principal actors for the upcoming BBC drama by Sally Wainwright, known for her work on ‘Happy Valley‘ and ‘Last Tango in Halifax’, have now been officially revealed.

A story about a group of women who form a punk-rock band will be explored, shedding light on their personal lives as they navigate the challenges of balancing careers, family, romantic entanglements, and other aspects such as dating and relationships.

The following individuals have been announced as headlining the cast: Lorraine Ashbourne (from “Sherwood”), Joanna Scanlan (“The Thick of It”), Tamsin Greig (“Friday Night Dinner” and “Suspect”), Rosalie Craig (of Netflix’s “1899”), and Amelia Bullmore (“The Jetty”).

Furthermore, the cast of “Riot Women” will again team up with actress Anne Reid, who starred in “Last Tango in Halifax,” and Sue Johnston from “The Royle Family” is also set to join them.

The main characters of the six-part BBC series will also feature Taj Atwal (known for Line of Duty), Claire Skinner (renowned for Outnumbered), Peter Davison (well-known from Doctor Who), Amit Shah (recognized in Happy Valley), Kevin Doyle (celebrated in Downton Abbey) and Chandeep Uppal (familiar from Anita and Me)).

In the role of principal director for the show, Wainwright will take the helm. Additionally, Amanda Brotchie, known for her work on Gentleman Jack and Doctor Who, has been confirmed as well. Creative minds behind successful productions like Fool Me Once, Doctor Foster, and One Day are also part of the team.

Riot Women is currently filming, and the show is set in West Yorkshire.
