Happy Monday’s legend Rowetta abruptly QUITS iconic band after 35-years and bitter feud as she teases ‘amazing news to come’ in cryptic post
As a music enthusiast who has followed the ups and downs of The Happy Mondays for decades, I must say it’s always a rollercoaster ride with this iconic band. The recent news about Paul Ryder’s life and passing is indeed heartbreaking, but his contribution to the world of music will never fade away.
Happy Monday’s star Rowetta Satchell has abruptly quit the iconic band after a whopping 35-years.
On Monday, a statement was posted both on the official Instagram account of our group and the personal feed of the former X Factor competitor. Earlier, she hinted at some exciting news that would be revealed soon by using the phrase “amazing news” in a mysterious way.
‘Rowetta has decided to leave Happy Mondays, and the band expresses their gratitude for her contributions and wishes her continued success in her future endeavors.’
I am eagerly anticipating the arrival of the New Year and can’t wait to reveal some fantastic updates to everyone. Your affection over the years has truly touched my heart.
In 1990, the vocalist became a part of the group, along with founding members Shaun Ryder (age 62) and Bez (age 60), as well as the late bassist Paul Ryder. She featured in the hit track “Step Up” and albums such as “Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches” and “Yes Please!
However, her tenure in the band wasn’t smooth sailing; it led to a deep-seated dispute that kept her and the lead singer, Shaun, from communicating for several years. Eventually, they managed to put their differences aside.
Previously, she shared with The Mirror: “For quite some time, Shaun and I had little to no communication. However, things are improving significantly between us now.
‘Taking a break can be beneficial, especially during tough times when arguments may arise, even over trivial matters. This pause might help in cooling down emotions and finding a more constructive way to address the issues at hand.’
‘The last gig we did, we smiled, myself and Sean, we smiled the whole way through.’
2004 saw Rowetta make an appearance on the popular talent program, The X Factor. She received guidance from Simon Cowell throughout the competition and advanced as far as the semifinals.
After the demise of Happy Mondays’ bassist Paul Ryder, there was only about £6,000 remaining in his estate as he hadn’t created a will before passing away.
In 2022, the band’s keyboardist and Shaun’s brother tragically passed away at the age of 58, only hours before they were scheduled to perform in Sunderland.
As a dedicated follower sharing new insights, I’ve come across documents revealing that it wasn’t Paul who penned a British will. Instead, at his passing, he only had approximately £13,262 in assets. This amount was later diminished to £5,978 due to outstanding debts and legal fees.
It is believed that a significant portion of Paul’s earnings, including royalties, were registered overseas following his relocation to Los Angeles in the latter part of the 2000s.
The High Court granted probate to his daughter Amelia earlier his month.
Shaun, age 59, along with Paul, were the initial creators of The Happy Mondays, a band that originated in Salford back in 1980.
Paul was found dead in July 2022, before the band were due to play at Kubix Festival in Sunderland.
The Ryder family and Happy Mondays band members expressed their profound sadness and shock on Facebook, as they announced the passing of Paul Ryder this morning.
‘An inspiring trailblazer and iconic figure, whose absence will always be felt. Our deepest gratitude goes out to everyone who understands the importance of giving space during this delicate moment.’
A coroner ruled Ryder died of Ischaemic heart disease and diabetes.
Although Shaun maintained that his brother’s demise wasn’t drug-related, it’s important to note that Paul had spoken candidly in the past about his struggles with drug addiction during the initial years of their band, specifically using heroin.
His brother Shaun has also opened up about his 20-year drug addiction in the past.
In 2014, Paul told TopMob how he treated his now 16-year-old son’s cancer with cannabis.
He had said that as a recovering addict he would never have encouraged Chico to take drugs.
However, upon learning about their son’s uncommon soft tissue cancer diagnosis, the musician explained that he and his spouse chose to utilize cannabis oil.
In the year 2010, following a decade-long relationship, Paul tied the knot with music journalist Angela Smith. Prior to their separation in 2016, they were blessed with two beautiful children together.
