In the upcoming movie, you’ll recognize many actors who starred in the previous version. Specifically, Ben Stiller, Christopher McDonald, and Julie Bowen will once again take on their characters, Hal L, Shooter McGavin, and Virginia Venit respectively.

Regrettably, the character of Chubbs Peterson, previously played by the late Carl Weathers, will no longer appear, as the actor sadly passed away at 76 years old in February 2024.

During an interview with Collider, Sandler revealed that Weathers’s passing significantly impacted the storyline of the forthcoming movie, resulting in challenging choices during the creative process.

There was a difficult transition. Carl Weathers played a significant role. I used to converse with Carl, and we were both eager, but unfortunately, Carl passed away,” stated Sandler, who revealed that the late Chubbs would appear in Happy’s dreams through this transformation.

In the initial concept, Chubbs was depicted as having a son. This son frequently appeared in Sandler’s dreams, and he harbored anger towards Happy because of his role in the death of his father.

In the movie’s continuation, the actor, who was additionally involved in writing and production, shared insights on how they honored their fellow collaborator despite everything by revising the screenplay.

He mentioned that they needed to revise a considerable amount of the content, including the plot itself. A significant portion of the script paid tribute to Chubbs’ excellent portrayal in the film, which turned out to be the most substantial modification.

Happy Gilmore 2 is released on Netflix on 25 July.
