Hannah Waddingham hints at tensions on the set of Ted Lasso due to writer and co-star Jason Sudeikis’ constant rewrites admitting they have an ‘ongoing love-hate relationship’

Hannah Waddingham suggested there were some difficulties during the filming of Ted Lasso, stemming from Jason Sudeikis—who wrote and starred in the show—frequently changing the scripts.

The 51-year-old actress, known for her role as Rebecca in the hit Apple TV show, shared that she has a complicated, sometimes loving, sometimes frustrating connection with the show’s star.

Jason, age 50, stars as Ted and also helped write the show, which became the most popular original series on streaming platforms in 2023.

According to Variety, the third season experienced delays because of problems during production, and it’s been suggested that Jason’s constant revisions contributed to those issues.

Hannah was asked if season four ran more smoothly?

Because of how Jason Sudeikis approaches his work, there’s naturally some back-and-forth and compromise involved when filming a scene.

I listen to his feedback while we’re working, and then we make adjustments. With him, you have to be flexible and adapt to changes. We often go back and forth, and he tends to make revisions right before the deadline.

Ted Lasso was a huge hit, racking up 283 million viewing hours. The show follows an American football coach brought in to coach a British soccer team. Many viewers wondered if Ted and Rebecca would become a couple, but so far, that hasn’t happened – though it’s still a possibility.

And Hannah said she is thrilled that they didn’t end up embroiled in a romance.

She expressed her appreciation for the show’s unconventional nature and the deep connection between the characters, noting that ‘soulmates’ doesn’t have just one definition. She also really enjoyed all the different relationships portrayed.

Hannah also insisted that no actor should let their performance be manipulated with AI.

During the interview, she clarified that the rumors about her auditioning for the role of Madame Morrible in the ‘Wicked’ movie were false.

Hannah and Cynthia first became acquainted while performing together in a 2015 West End production of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.”

Both Cynthia and Hannah wished Michelle Yeoh had auditioned, but it turned out she’d already been cast. Still, they felt she would have been very enthusiastic about the opportunity.

Beyond her career, Hannah is a devoted mother to her 11-year-old daughter and actively volunteers with the Make-a-Wish U.K. charity.

With branches in nearly 50 countries, we’re committed to fulfilling the wishes of children facing serious illnesses.

Hannah declared she’s happy to dedicate an entire day to fundraising if it means helping seriously ill children.
