Handmaid’s Tale shares first look at season 6 ahead of spring release window

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in dystopian worlds, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation and nostalgia upon seeing the first look at the sixth and final season of “The Handmaid’s Tale“. Having lived through multiple playthroughs of games like Fallout and Mass Effect, where humanity faces its darkest days only to rise again, I can’t help but draw parallels between those digital struggles and the ongoing fight portrayed in this series.

The Handmaid’s Tale has shared a first look at the sixth and final season.

Prior to the spring 2025 debut, several behind-the-scenes photos, or production stills, have been shared offering glimpses of major characters such as June, portrayed by Elisabeth Moss, and Serena, played by Yvonne Strahovski.

In addition, the foreboding images capture characters such as Nick (Max Minghella), Moira (Samira Wiley), and Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) gazing directly into the lens of the camera.

The stills are from the first three episodes – two of which were directed by Moss.

Work on the latest seasons started a couple of months back, marking two years since the end of season five.

On Instagram, the show announced that production for the final season has begun in September and will be returning in Spring 2025. Translating to: “Who’s back? We’ve started filming for the last season! Catch us again in Spring 2025. #TheHandmaidsTale

As a gamer, I can tell you that “The Handmaid’s Tale” is inspired by Margaret Atwood’s novel and takes place in a chilling future version of the U.S., named Gilead. In this oppressive society, fertile women like me are forced into servitude as ‘Handmaids’, stripped of our freedom and reduced to mere child-bearers for the ruling class.

In 2022, the show was given a sixth and last season renewal. The show’s creator, Bruce Miller, expressed his gratitude for having the opportunity to portray Margaret Atwood’s groundbreaking novel and its chilling reflection of our world, stating, “We are excited to offer viewers a sixth and concluding season of The Handmaid’s Tale.

We appreciate Hulu and MGM for granting us the chance to share this timeless tale, whose relevance continues to resonate, and we’re amazed by our fantastic fans who have stood by us unwaveringly, enabling us to reach this significant milestone.

The television series “The Handmaid’s Tale” is set to resume in spring 2025, and can be streamed in the United States on Hulu. In the UK, it will be available on Channel 4 as well as Amazon Prime Video.
