Halloween costumes 2025: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are the top choice, see who else made the list

Popular Halloween costume trends for 2025 are celebrity related.

The Daily Mail has discovered that this year’s most popular costume ideas center around some of Hollywood’s biggest celebrities, as reported by The Halloween & Costume Association (HCA).

Power couple Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are the top choice.

Fans are planning to dress up for the concert! Women are expected to wear outfits inspired by Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, such as her silver leotard or burgundy dress, while men are likely to choose Kansas City Chiefs jerseys like the one worn by Travis Kelce, according to the HCA.

There may also be fans that copy the look the stars wore when they got engaged in August.

Fans might also be interested in taking inspiration from Kylie Jenner and Timothee Chalamet, who have been a couple for nearly three years.

They could take inspiration from a couple of recent outfits: either the look from the Golden Globe Awards in January, or what they wore to a basketball game during the NBA Playoffs that same month.

Some people are also concerned that fans of Kanye West might imitate the outfit he and his wife, Bianca Censori, wore on the Grammy Awards red carpet in February.

He dressed entirely in black, while she wore a sheer, nude-colored dress without any undergarments for coverage.

Many people are showing a lot of interest in costumes inspired by the popular show Wednesday, which is based on The Addams Family. It’s become quite a trend!

People are really wanting to recreate Jenna Ortega’s dark schoolgirl style for the main character, and Catherine Zeta-Jones’ look – a black, low-cut dress and long black hair – is also a very popular costume choice.

According to Michele Boylstein, HCA’s Executive Director, the data indicates that Halloween encourages creativity and a sense of community among adults, not just kids. She stated, ‘This data shows that Halloween is a holiday that brings out the creativity and community spirit of adults, not just children.’

Adults are fully embracing all things Halloween, from costumes and decorations to parties and even including their pets in the celebrations. The consistently growing involvement since 2020 demonstrates that Halloween is more popular than ever. It’s a booming holiday!

The movie Wicked also features memorable characters: Ariana Grande, playing Glinda, was seen in shimmering pink gowns, while Cynthia Erivo, as Elphaba, sported green skin with a classic black dress and hat.

Dressing up as Superman is popular again, just like it was when the Christopher Reeve movie was released in 1978. This is thanks to a new film featuring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, which came out in July.

Costumes inspired by the film Beetlejuice are also becoming popular. The emotions from Inside Out 2 are a big hit as well: characters such as Ennui and Anxiety are being made into costumes for both children and adults.

Both Spider-Man and Batman continue to be favorites among children, and newer characters such as Miles Morales and Black Panther are also gaining popularity. Well-known villains like Ghostface are frequently seen as well. For a complete costume, a Spider-Man Morphsuit offers a full-body option for kids.

As a huge fan, I’m still obsessed with Alicia Silverstone’s style in Clueless! Everyone wants to get their hands on her outfits, particularly that iconic yellow plaid jacket and skirt. It’s a total must-have for any fashion lover!

Children still enjoy video game characters like those from Minecraft and Pokémon. A Minecraft Creeper Outfit is a particularly popular choice for kids.

With the release of the new Jurassic World movie, we can probably expect to see inflatable T-Rex costumes become popular again, especially the ones featuring Scarlett Johansson.

The Halloween & Costume Association (HCA) also reported that over half (51%) of adults who celebrate Halloween intend to wear a costume this year. A significant portion, 32%, will also dress up their pets. Nearly half (46%) of adults planning to wear costumes are planning to either host or go to a Halloween party, and a majority (54%) are planning to decorate their homes or yards.

People are starting their Halloween shopping sooner rather than later: 45% of adults who plan to wear costumes begin buying them in September, while 36% shop within the first couple of weeks of October.

Adults plan to spend an average of $60 on costumes, $55 on decorations, and $40 on candy.

Many people still enjoy shopping at dedicated Halloween and costume shops, as 46% of adults intend to do so. Meanwhile, 40% plan to shop online for their costumes and decorations.

Since 2020, more and more adults have been celebrating Halloween, with its popularity bouncing back after the COVID-19 pandemic. Millennials (39.5%) and Gen Z (26.7%) are the generations most likely to wear costumes. Adults who live with children younger than 18 are also very involved – over 36% are planning to take their kids trick-or-treating. This shows a growing trend in Halloween participation.

American costume businesses are warning that recently suggested taxes on goods from China could essentially cancel Halloween and cause major problems for Christmas if things don’t change quickly.

As manufacturing is already happening and orders have been confirmed, companies are urgently seeking solutions to ensure products reach stores promptly and remain affordable for households.

As a longtime fan, I’m really worried about how expensive things are becoming. I’ve noticed that costumes that used to be just $19.99 are now jumping up to $39.99! It’s not just the elaborate outfits either – even simple masks, which were once only $4.99, could easily cost $9.99 or even more now. With prices doubling like this, I fear a lot of people just won’t be able to afford to participate anymore.

‘This is a critical time for our industry,’ stated Robert Berman, a Board Member of the Halloween & Costume Association and President of Rasta Impasta/Imposta Costumes, a major U.S. costume maker. ‘Halloween is different from other holidays. If products are delayed or become unaffordable for families, Halloween celebrations just won’t occur. There aren’t any alternatives.

The newest increase in tariffs, potentially raising prices by as much as 145% or 170%, is particularly damaging to seasonal suppliers right now. Having already invested millions of dollars in materials and manufacturing, many businesses are now dealing with sudden, unforeseen expenses that are making their products unprofitable. As a result, retailers are responding by cancelling orders and reducing the amount they purchase-even for items made exclusively for them.

‘It’s really tough,’ Berman explained. ‘We’re talking about products that will be sent out in just a few weeks – not months down the line. And since Halloween only happens once a year, if you don’t capitalize on that short selling period, you can’t make up for lost sales.’
