Halloween Baking Championship season 10 episode 2: Who goes home in week 2?
As a fan who’s been hooked on “Halloween Baking Championship” since its inception, I can confidently say that this season 10 episode was nothing short of spellbinding! The Beetlejuice-themed challenge was a delightful twist, and I couldn’t help but feel the excitement as Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, and Michael Keaton graced our screens once more.
The second episode of season 10 for the Halloween Baking Championship revolves around Beetlejuice, specifically, “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice” as the theme. This ties in with the popular film sequel now showing in cinemas across the nation. Notable characters Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, and Michael Keaton reprise their iconic roles for this special episode. Herein lies spoilers for season 10, episode 2.
Unfortunately, just like every installment of this cherished Food Network series, one contestant must depart at the close of this week’s Killer Challenge. In tonight’s episode, it turns out to be Carly who is eliminated and sent to the cryo chamber. Continue reading to discover why she was sent home, which baker claimed immunity during the Thriller Challenge, and what exciting events await us next week!
Thriller Challenge: Black and white dessert
Tonight’s initial task centers on replicating the distinctive two-tone color palette of Betelgeuse (black and white). The bakers were required not only to prepare desserts in these contrasting colors, but also to incorporate flavors that are polar opposites.
- Winner: Joel wins this challenge and receives immunity this week thanks to a dessert featuring a clean, “delightfully breakfasty” concoction expertly blending the contrasting flavors of prunes and cream cheese. Stephanie even gave him a rare 10 out of 10!
Killer Challenge: XL desserts topped with shrunken treats
The task given to the bakers was to design distinctive sweets, where a larger confection forms the base and a smaller treat sits atop it, in tribute to the beloved Shrinkers from the franchise.
- Winner: Thierry’s gorgeous dessert of a little cat with a big mouse perfectly exemplified what the judges were after. He created a big sweet potato cake pop complete with a blown sugar cake stem and then set a small citrus pavlova on top. The judges were impressed with the creamy, smooth orange curd and the crunchy meringue.
- Runner-up: Manny
As a devoted viewer, I must admit that the nail-biting finale of the Killer Challenge always leaves me on the edge of my seat. In this particular instance, it was a heart-stopping moment when Carly and Hollie found themselves in danger of elimination, each for their distinct reasons.
Carly made a large chocolate raspberry cupcake layered with raspberry mousse, topping it off with a miniature chocolate raspberry silk pie that had been reduced in size. Unfortunately, the pie filling didn’t solidify properly, and the cupcake was overly heavy. Hollie’s big maple walnut blondie turned out too crumbly, and her petite peach cobbler skillet was charming but didn’t contain enough peaches. This week, it was Carly who had to leave the competition.
As she takes her leave, Carly expresses her sense of accomplishment for getting this far. On her journey towards the chamber, the baker notes that simply being present has given her a glimpse into an entirely new realm.
In the upcoming week, the eight bakers left in the competition will create sweets centered around an adorable animal transforming into a monstrous version of itself!
Every Monday night, you can catch me tuning in to the latest episodes of Halloween Baking Championship on Food Network. If I miss it live, I know I can always stream it later on Max and Discovery+.
