Despite having been married three times before, Halle Berry says she still hopes to find a lifelong partner. She announced on Thursday that she’s engaged to her boyfriend, Grammy Award-winning musician Van Hunt.
The 59-year-old Oscar winner explained on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that he proposed to her, but she turned him down.
‘No, that’s not the case. I did not say no. We just don’t have a date.’
After a moment, Berry happily confirmed she had accepted his proposal, joking that he’d already given her a ring.
Calling it ‘little’ is ironic, given the bauble’s impressive size. It’s a striking piece with a central diamond and a square-cut design, all set on a substantial gold band.
The actress, known for her action roles, was talking about a recent interview with The Cut. In it, she shared that a 55-year-old singer proposed to her last June, and while she hadn’t accepted, she’d consider marrying him—primarily for the healthcare benefits that come with being legally married.
Berry and Hunt connected through Berry’s brother in April 2020, right when the COVID-19 pandemic was peaking. They chatted by text and phone for about four months before finally meeting in person.
The Re-spin co-founder remembers that after her third divorce, people began to gossip, wondering what was wrong with her and claiming she was unable to maintain a relationship.
I avoided giving interviews for about ten years because I grew weary of the repetitive narrative. It always focused on my personal life, portraying me as someone constantly facing heartbreak.
Berry added, “I’ve always believed, why would I stay with someone who isn’t a good fit for me? I’m currently in the happiest and healthiest relationship of my life.”
