Halle Bailey and DDG, who share a baby boy, call it quits: 'We are still best friends'

As a long-time cinema enthusiast who has witnessed countless love stories unfold on and off screen, I can’t help but feel a twinge of melancholy at the news of Halle Bailey and DDG parting ways. Their journey was one that captivated many, from their red carpet debut to the arrival of their beautiful son, Halo.

Halle Bailey and DDG will no longer be part of each other’s worlds — at least not romantically.

Halle Bailey, known for her role in “The Little Mermaid,” and rapper DDG (also known as “I’m Geekin”), have ended their relationship after two years together, during which they welcomed a son. In a statement made on Thursday, DDG said, “After careful thought and sincere discussions, Halle and I have chosen to move forward independently.

DDG stated on his Instagram story yesterday that this choice wasn’t straightforward, but he firmly feels it’s the optimal route for our mutual progression. He values the moments we’ve experienced and the affection we’ve exchanged.

A spokesperson for Chloë x Halle’s other half, Bailey, has yet to provide a response to The Times’ inquiry for a statement.

As a film enthusiast, I’ve been following the evolving love story between the captivating 24-year-old actress Bailey and the charming 26-year-old artist DDG. Whispers of their romantic involvement first surfaced in January 2022, but it wasn’t until their radiant appearance together on the red carpet at the 2022 BET Awards in June that we could confirm our suspicions. In an August 2022 interview with Essence, Bailey revealed that she had been a fan of DDG’s YouTube channel and that their relationship blossomed through private messages exchanged on social media.

When the magazine questioned Bailey about her feelings for DDG, she confidently affirmed, “Absolutely, yes, I am in love with him.

Following some public squabbles and speculation about a breakup, the pair deepened their relationship further. In autumn 2023, whispers of Bailey’s pregnancy began when Page Six reported that she had evaded photographers at the MTV Video Music Awards and was careful in her hugging habits, choosing whom to embrace selectively.

Despite fan speculation, Bailey kept mum on Instagram. DDG also played coy, denying on Snapchat that they were expecting. Days after the rapper’s denial, Bailey announced the arrival of baby boy Halo.

She said on Instagram that “even though we’re a few days into the new year, the greatest thing that 2023 could have done for me, was bring me my son.. welcome to the world my Halo.”

She added: “The world is desperate to know you.”

After Halo’s birth, Bailey and DDG decided to speak publicly about their hidden pregnancy for the first time. At the Essence Black Women in Hollywood awards ceremony held in March, Bailey expressed that her son was the most significant blessing she had ever received, and she felt no need to make their private life public.

Ever since Halo came into their lives, the musicians have been posting glimpses of their family life with their son on social media platforms. Recently, a video of him enjoying a kiddie ride has turned into popular internet content.

In a message sent on Thursday, DDG expressed that he and Bailey are choosing to share parenting responsibilities while focusing on their separate personal growth paths. Furthermore, he emphasized that the split between them did not stem from any negative feelings.

Though things between us have shifted, our love continues to be strong and sincere,” he expressed. “We’re still inseparable buddies who cherish each other deeply.
