The NFL is increasingly focusing on its halftime entertainment. What began as a simple update to the Super Bowl halftime show years ago has evolved into dedicated events, like the Netflix Christmas Day games and special playoff performances.
The NFC Championship game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Rams is happening this Sunday, January 25th at 3:30 pm PT at Lumen Field in Seattle. Many fans were hoping for a local rock band like Pearl Jam or Heart to perform, but the league and event organizers have chosen a different musical act.
Country singer Tucker Wetmore will perform during halftime. You might recognize his song “Wine into Whiskey” – it’s been popular on TikTok and even reached the Billboard Hot 100 charts, proving its appeal goes beyond just country music fans. The NFL likely chose him because he attracts a wide audience.
Tucker Wetmore to be the halftime show between the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams for the NFC Championship game
It makes sense to have Wetmore perform at halftime. He’s from Kalama, Washington, which is near Seattle, and likely a Seahawks fan. If the league wants to feature a less famous musician, choosing one who supports one of the teams playing is a smart move.
Westmore was a football player in both high school and college. He played wide receiver at Kalama High School and then at Montana Tech, but he ultimately decided to pursue a career in country music instead. That change seems to be working out well for him so far.
The NFL might be cleverly appealing to a broad audience in today’s politically charged environment. Seattle is known for being liberal, while country music fans tend to be more conservative. By hosting a concert in Seattle, the NFL seems to be trying to bridge those divides – a bit like hoping for peace through music, though that’s a stretch.
Tucker Westmore’s first album, ‘What Not To,’ came out in 2025 and reached No. 15 on the Billboard 200 chart and No. 4 on the country charts. His most successful song, “Wind Up Missin’ You,” released in 2024, climbed to No. 31 on the Billboard Hot 100.
