Approximately 12 million British viewers watched the final episode of the cherished sitcom, during which characters James Corden’s Smithy and Ruth Jones’ Nessa tied the knot.
At the special event, Nessa shared a story from her lively past, revealing that she had previously rented a room from the duo Hale and Pace.
Gareth Hale and Norman Pace were a comedy duo who performed throughout the UK in the 80s and 90s.

In the 1970s, Hale and Pace initially crossed paths at a teaching college situated in South-East London. However, following half a decade of classroom work, they chose to switch careers and venture into the world of entertainment instead.
For nearly a decade, I’ve been deeply involved with a group that primarily showcased their talents at the Tramshed in Woolwich, London for seven years straight. Later on, we were given the opportunity to share our artistry through a sequence of radio broadcasts on BBC Radio 4.
In the 1980s, they had their major opportunity when they appeared on television programs such as “The Entertainers” and “Pushing Up Daisies,” specifically in 1984.

Away from Hale and Pace, Gareth appeared on the Channel 5 soap Family Affairs from 2003 to 2005.
Apart from these, he’s been a guest on programs like Casualty and Father Brown. More recently, he made an appearance on the 2021 Nickelodeon children’s show Goldie’s Oldies, portraying Grandpa Maury.
Norman on the other hand has focused mainly on theatre work in recent years.
He took leading roles at the Adelphi Theatre on London’s West End in Chicago, and he’s also been featured in performances of One Man, Two Guvnors and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
In 2024, he appeared as Claude in The Baker’s Wife at the Menier Chocolate Factory in London.
In a 2018 interview with On: Yorkshire Magazine, Normal expressed his preference for performing on stage over being on screen.
He expressed his preference for performing on stage, appreciating the lively ambiance it offers. Additionally, he finds comfort in knowing that if an error occurs during a performance, there are usually up to seven more opportunities within that same week to correct and improve it.

Norman has been married to wife Beverly since 1976 and they have three children.
