Hairy Bikers’ fans left in tears following ‘superb’ final episode as Si King pays emotional tribute to late pal Dave Myers following his tragic death
As a longtime fan of the Hairy Bikers, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of admiration and empathy for Si King, as he recounts his heartfelt memories of his late friend and partner, Dave Myers. The bond between these two working-class lads, hustling and hoping to make the best of their lives, resonates with me on a personal level.
Fans of The Hairy Bikers were in tears following the series finale on Monday, which paid tribute to the late Dave Myers.
As an ardent admirer, I found myself deeply moved by “You’ll Never Ride Alone,” where at 58, Si King journeyed through the life of his cherished comrade-in-arms, who, after a valiant fight against cancer, departed at 66 in February.
Audience members were deeply moved when they discovered more about Dave, such as how he had begun cooking at the tender age of eight, taking care of his ailing mother.
The episode also followed Dave Day which saw Si and Dave’s widow Liliana lead thousands of bikers in an epic fundraiser as they rode from London to Barrow-in-Furness honour of the late TV star.
Speaking with X’s fans, their reactions were overwhelmingly positive, labeling it as ‘outstanding’ and ‘an impressive homage.’ Not a single eye remained dry among them.
They wrote: ‘Is anyone watching this Hairy Bikers tribute to Dave on BBC2? I’m in bits’: ‘I’ve cried about ten times at the Hairy Bikers already’: OMG please tell me why I am actually nearly crying at Hairy Bikers remembering Dave special’: ‘That was a very emotional programme in memory of Dave Myers 50% of The Hairy Bikers. I swear if there is a god he takes the best first’.
‘The Hairy Bikers tribute to Dave was superb’: ‘My other half cannot believe this Hairy Bikers special JUST started and I’ve already got tears in my eyes’: ‘Bloody jell, this Hairy Bikers programme ain’t half got my bottom lip going’.
During a unique showing of the program recently, Si candidly discussed his feelings of sorrow and his aspirations for the days ahead.
Reflecting Dave’s death he said: ‘Grief comes and comes and goes and goes.’
In my commitment to the Bikers’ enduring spirit, I strive to carry out activities that align with their legacy, as well as pursue my own desires – just as I would hope he would do for me in our roles being reversed.
It was confirmed that the Hairy Bikers series would no longer continue, as their future endeavors will significantly change without his lifelong partner in collaboration.
‘Things would have been different if he were still here. It was Dave and me, but unfortunately, he’s not with us anymore. I deeply wish things could be different, and this is something truly significant.’
Yes, who choked up dramatically in the last episode, delivered a heartfelt speech about the bravery that Myers demonstrated throughout their closing season together.
While traveling north on the A1, I received a call. He said, “Hey, it’s me. I have something important to share with you. Would you mind pulling over?” So, I pulled over, and he shared the news that he has cancer.
I found myself once more riding alongside him, deeply respecting his bravery. The recent project we undertook together, not just me and Dave but our entire team who’ve worked with us for decades in certain instances, truly showcased his resilience.
As a dedicated follower, I can tell you that his determination was unwavering; he yearned to hit the road once more on his bike, longing to break free from the confines of being a cancer patient. He sought the freedom and camaraderie that came with being one of the Hairy Bikers again, and I firmly believe that this aspiration fueled him throughout his journey.
Si said he feels a responsibility to preserve Dave’s memory and their shared legacy.
It falls upon me to preserve his memory, safeguard the heritage he created, and uphold the legacy of the Hairy Bikers. Dave was a man full of joy. He cherished and reveled in the life he lived, and this was deeply meaningful to him. This, in essence, is what made my dearest friend so special.
He then went on describe Dave as a ‘perfect example’ of brotherhood and community.
‘The event served as a powerful symbol. It represented camaraderie, unity, and provided a safe space for individuals to express their sorrow over the passing of a sincere, honorable man.’
Contemplating our relationship, Si remarked: ‘We shared a bond of fraternity and goodwill since we’d each navigated through life in unique paths.’
Being part of the working-class community, we grind day by day, always holding on to a glimmer of optimism. I believe it was this shared sense of hope that drew us closer. In one another, we found fellow believers, recognizing our mutual understanding and resilience.
He also shared a humorous memory of Dave’s initial encounter with his wife, Lil.
It’s clear that Dave felt an immediate, deep affection upon their first meeting. As for Lil, she might have found themselves questioning the identities of these two strangers, possibly thinking something along the lines of “Who are these people?” However, I couldn’t help but notice a certain spark in Dave’s eyes. He confessed, “I genuinely like her a lot.” My response was casual yet encouraging, “Oh, you do? Well, let’s grab a drink and discuss it further then.
