Hailey Bieber Reveals One Trend She Says Is ‘Played Out,’ And I’m Surprised Given It’s Everywhere

Famous personalities play a significant role in determining popular styles, be it corsets on the red carpet or black swimsuits during summer. Yet, trends can change rapidly, and one particular style might go out of fashion quickly. It seems Hailey Bieber might have contributed to this with her recent statement about butter yellow being “outdated.” This is surprising to me since the color appears to be quite prevalent at the moment.

As part of her skincare brand Rhode, Hailey Bieber recently launched a new Lemontini lip peptide, which she describes as having a “sweet, citrusy lemon cocktail scent.” She then went to Instagram Stories to address fans who apparently wanted something a little lighter, writing (via WhoWhatWear):

…and let’s move on from questioning the color since it’s not a butter-like shade. It’s LEMON, remember? Not butter, and the ‘butter yellow’ trend seems to be fading a bit…with due respect.

If I were as bright as a ripe lemon, I wouldn’t feel particularly valued. Given the Rhode Island theme, it’s clear why the product has a zesty, citrusy scent instead of a soft, creamy one. Her explanation was sufficient for me, without implying that the butter trend is obsolete.

Sydney Sweeney’s buttery yellow tennis outfit certainly didn’t look “played out,” and the color was good enough for Sophie Turner on the cover of British Vogue. Even Hailey Bieber sported the color last year, and believe me, I only mean it as the highest of compliments that there has never been a more gorgeous stick of butter with a bun in the oven:

As a trendsetting celebrity fashion icon, perhaps that’s precisely what I do – constantly reinvent and update my style once a trend has become commonplace. Or, following the buzz surrounding Hailey’s dance video, which seemed to dampen the gossip about her marital troubles with Justin Bieber, she might be feeling more upbeat these days.

In previous years, Emma Stone’s revealing dress and Lori Harvey’s fairytale-like appearance made for some delightful, golden moments on the red carpet. Perhaps it’s now time to bring a new twist to these events.

If lemon-yellow fashion takes over as the latest style, Jennifer Lopez is expected to be delighted, since she has sported this vibrant shade both casually in a small, tight bikini (not polka dotted) and formally at the premiere of her movie, Shotgun Wedding. Similarly, Florence Pugh accessorized a bold yellow dress and jacket with electric blue high heels, creating an outfit that was simply stunning.

Whether other celebs follow Hailey Bieber’s lead or not, Rhode is having a full lemon takeover. The Instagram page is full of yellow imagery, showing its boss woman drinking a lemon martini in celebration of the new product that launches July 14:

Currently, Hailey Bieber seems to be fond of lemon hues; she’s even sported a yellow nail polish and shared it on her social media accounts. As someone with significant influence in the fashion world, her opinions can sway trends. However, her recent statement that butter yellow is outdated might not necessarily signal the end of this year’s most popular fashion trend, given its widespread popularity. I remain somewhat doubtful, but only the passage of time will provide a definitive answer!
