Gypsy Rose Blanchard reveals drastic hair transformation after admitting she’s been hiding under wigs

Gypsy Rose Blanchard surprised her followers on Wednesday by showing off her natural hair, revealing that she typically wears a wig.

A 34-year-old woman, who spent eight years in prison for helping with her mother’s murder, recently posted a photo on Instagram Stories showing off her new short haircut.

Above the photo, she added text reading, ‘Why do you wear wigs?’

She explained in the comments that her hair was naturally textured and had been severely damaged by almost two years of bleaching, which is why she’d had to cut it very short.

You know, I’ve never been one for super short hair, so while I’m letting my natural hair grow out and get healthy again, I prefer to wear a really good wig. It’s all about giving my hair a clean slate and the chance to grow long and strong!

Fans were surprised by this latest news, especially after she debuted a fresh appearance in May, having lost 25 pounds.

The TV star posted a photo of herself looking noticeably thinner, happily posing with her husband, Ken Urker.

She embraced the warmer weather with denim shorts and a black leather top, showing off her confidence after giving birth to her daughter, Aurora, last December.

She shared another selfie, this time showing off her fit physique in a white tank top, jeans, and black ankle boots.

After previously saying she hadn’t used weight-loss drugs like Ozempic or Mounjaro, Blanchard announced her 25-pound weight loss in a social media post.

In January, the survivor of Munchausen by proxy claimed her physique was due to working on her core through yoga and exercise.

She shared on Instagram that she’s been working on her health by purchasing some home gym equipment. She also clarified that she’s never used weight loss drugs and that she had a healthy pregnancy with minimal weight gain.

Blanchard gave birth to her daughter with Ken Urker on December 28th, a year after her release from prison.

Growing up, she pretended to be severely ill and used a wheelchair, all because her mother, Claudine ‘Dee Dee’ Blanchard, shaved her head, gave her medication, and falsely told everyone she had leukemia and muscular dystrophy.

The close relationship between Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her mother, Dee Dee, tragically ended in 2015. Gypsy, after years of control by her mother, allowed her online boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, to enter their home in Springfield, Missouri, where he fatally stabbed Dee Dee, who was 48 years old.

She eventually admitted to second-degree murder and served almost ten years in prison before being released on parole in December 2023.

She met Ken while she was in prison after he wrote her a letter. They began writing to each other, and their relationship quickly became romantic. He proposed marriage to her in 2018.

Following the release of the Hulu series The Act, featuring Joey King as Gypsy and Patricia Arquette as her mother, Gypsy revealed in her memoir that her ex-husband, Ken, struggled with the intense media attention the show brought to their story.

They ultimately split and she moved on with Ryan Scott Anderson, and they wed in July 2022.

Ryan was with her when she was released, but they announced their breakup just three months later.

Shortly after, news came out that Gypsy had gotten back together with her former partner, Ken, and they announced in July that they were expecting a baby.

In a YouTube video, Gypsy discussed how her difficult childhood experiences might shape how she views becoming a mother.

She explained that she hopes to provide her child with everything she wished she’d received as a child, and to be the kind of mother she never had.

Gypsy shared the story behind her baby’s name in an interview with People magazine last year.

Oh, that idea? That was all Ken! There’s actually a really interesting story behind it. A lot of people have speculated it has something to do with a certain Disney Princess, which is pretty fun to think about!

She explained that some believe her stepmother’s fondness for the name Aurora Grace comes from Kristy’s dog, but she insists that’s not the reason.

Instead, Aurora was selected because of the couple’s shared love of the Northern Lights.

You know, when I was with Ken about seven years ago, we were both completely captivated by the Northern Lights – or as they’re properly called, the Aurora Borealis. It’s funny, I remember talking about them a lot during my time with him, even back then when things were… complicated.

Around 2018, we each wrote down a name we liked for our future child, and surprisingly, we both independently chose Aurora.

Gypsy talked to A&E True Crime in March and opened up about how motherhood has changed her.

‘It’s made me a lot more mature. It’s made me really have to analyze my priorities,’ she explained.

After getting out of prison, I longed for freedom and wanted to experience everything life had to offer. I was impulsive and let my feelings guide me, drifting wherever they took me.

Things have really changed for me since becoming a mom. I’m much more careful about the choices I make now, because everything I do impacts my daughter, and I want to make sure I’m setting a good example and building a good life for both of us.

Becoming a parent has caused Blanchard to reflect on her own childhood, including some experiences she considers negative.

I really want to be able to understand where my mom is coming from, but I just can’t say that I do right now. It’s hard to admit, but I don’t see things from her perspective.

That’s not quite right. Actually, I feel even more confused now, with more questions than answers. I simply don’t think the way my mother did, so it’s hard to connect with her experiences.
