Gwyneth Paltrow reveals the Hollywood actress turned princess who inspired her Marty Supreme character

Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed which Hollywood legend inspired her Marty Supreme character.

The Oscar winner was talking to the Los Angeles Times’ The Envelope for their Women In Film Issue.

The conversation also included Jennifer Lopez, who was previously married to and divorced from Ben Affleck, as well as Elle Fanning, Emily Blunt, and Tessa Thompson.

Gwyneth Paltrow revealed she drew inspiration from classic, old Hollywood actresses when creating her character, Kay Stone, in the film Marty Supreme, which also stars Timothée Chalamet.

The actress explained that her character was inspired by several people, but mostly by Grace Kelly – a famous movie star who famously left her career behind when she got married.

‘My character does the same,’ added the GOOP founder.

Gwyneth Paltrow noticed a distinct change in Grace Kelly’s photos. Comparing pictures from Kelly’s acting days to those taken after her marriage to Prince Rainier in 1956, Paltrow felt a certain brightness had faded from Kelly’s expression – as if she’d lost a part of herself.

My character faced a difficult journey to achieve success. Despite reaching stardom, she gives it all up to marry a rich man who isn’t right for her. Then, she experiences the devastating loss of her son, leaving her with a life filled with tragedy.

Oh my gosh, Grace Kelly! She was just the most incredible actress, and then… she became a princess! Can you believe it? She married Prince Rainier of Monaco way back in 1956 and basically lived a fairytale after that. I’ve been obsessed with her ever since I first learned about her – a Hollywood star becoming royalty? It’s just… magical!

Oh my gosh, Grace Kelly… she was EVERYTHING. Seriously, a total icon of the 1950s! I mean, she killed it in movies like ‘Rear Window’ – Hitchcock just got her, you know? But honestly, I first fell in love with her in ‘High Noon’. That movie was her big break, and she was just… magnetic. I’ve been obsessed ever since!

After marrying, she retired from acting and devoted herself to cultural and charitable work.

In 1982, Princess Kelly died in a car accident at the age of 52. She suffered a stroke while driving with her daughter, Princess Stephanie, and her car went off a mountainside in Monaco.

Paltrow is frequently compared to Kelly due to their similar looks and accent.

Angelina Jolie was originally going to play Grace Kelly in a movie, but the film faced difficulties and was ultimately never made.

She also resembled Kelly when she played Marge in The Talented Mr. Ripley.

Then Paltrow had an exchange with Jennifer Lopez, who was also interviewed.

Paltrow said, ‘I try to never read anything about myself, full stop, ever. Period.’

Lopez wondered, “Seriously, you never pay attention to any feedback about yourself? Not ever?” He explained that he doesn’t read reviews of his own movies, but people still let him know when they enjoy his work. He added that people also share other opinions and comments with him as well.

Paltrow then added, ‘Sometimes I’ll come upon it.’

Lopez then said, ‘And you want to die.’

The actress, known for her role in ‘Emma,’ admitted she sometimes feels overwhelmed and wishes she could disappear. She explained it’s like when someone sends you something awful about yourself online, and then dismisses it as untrue. She tries to avoid seeing those kinds of things, which is why she deleted her Instagram account.
