Gwyneth Paltrow drops angora products from her Goop store following condemnation from animal rights protesters – months after modelling the controversial wool sweaters on social media

Gwyneth Paltrow has removed items made from angora wool from her Goop shop following criticism from animal rights activists.

PETA asked Goop to stop using wool sourced from angora rabbits in Chinese factories, where the animals are often subjected to cruel treatment during the harvesting process. Many other major brands have already stopped using this type of wool due to these concerns.

PETA started a social media campaign targeting Goop, sharing disturbing videos of animals visibly suffering during fur removal – showing them screaming, bleeding, and clearly terrified as their fur is ripped or shaved off.

PETA’s Tracy Reiman wrote to Gwyneth Paltrow in September, stating that while Goop often positions itself as a pioneer willing to take risks so others don’t have to, it was actually late to the game when it came to angora. Reiman urged Goop to finally catch up with industry standards.

I was so excited to see the sweater she was wearing in her recent Instagram post! It’s a beautiful angora sweater, and I immediately checked Goop’s website. It’s currently on sale for £180 – can you believe it used to be £603?! Still pricey, but a much better deal!

If customers visit Goop to find the sweater now, they’ll see a message saying the page is empty.

PETA President Tracy Reiman criticized Gwyneth Paltrow’s use of angora wool, stating that anyone with empathy would avoid it after witnessing the cruel treatment of rabbits involved in its production, where they are often terrified and painfully sheared.

PETA is urging Gwyneth Paltrow and her company, Goop, to stop selling products made with angora wool. They point out that most other major brands have already banned it, and are asking Goop to prioritize animal welfare.

Now it appears that the hard-hitting message has struck a chord.

Over 425 popular brands like Zara, H&M, Gap, Burberry, and Hugo Boss have stopped using angora, causing Chinese angora exports to drop by more than 80%.

Although Goop no longer sells angora items, customers can still purchase a £1,000 advent calendar featuring sex toys for the holidays. However, it’s a shorter experience than most, with only nine gifts to open.

The lifestyle blog of the Academy Award-winning actress launched a unique advent calendar in October, perfect for the holidays. It’s featured in her gift guide and includes a collection of playfully suggestive presents.

Despite the high cost, there are surprisingly some limitations on the explicit content included.

Goop’s website describes its advent calendar as containing nine drawers, each with a unique surprise designed to inspire creativity and fun.

The set includes a black leather paddle, gold-plated handcuffs with a simple clasp, and 20 feet of black bondage rope accented with gold details and tassels.

The calendar also includes a variety of playful items, such as a leather door tag, soft restraint tape, a lavender-scented massage candle with a silk blindfold, leather pasties, and red ties with padded leather cuffs.

The advent calendar finishes with a luxurious, gold-colored bullet vibrator made of stainless steel. It features ten different settings – five levels of steady vibration and five unique patterns – completing the set of playful holiday gifts.

The pricey advent calendar is from upmarket lingerie maker Kiki de Montparnasse.

Goop describes the brand as a luxurious lingerie line that playfully and confidently celebrates the female body with its indulgent designs.

The brand, established in 2005, takes its name from a bold and confident Parisian model and actress known as the Queen of Montparnasse, who was a defining figure of the vibrant 1920s. Its luxurious designs aim to capture her unapologetic spirit.

Combining delicate tulle, beautiful lace details, and soft silk, each item is designed to feel incredibly luxurious while still being perfect for daily wear.

Last year, Gwyneth Paltrow and her company Goop suggested some very expensive gifts, including a £300 piece of Parmesan cheese, an £11,000 handcrafted backgammon set, and a £11,496 gold vibrator.

Three years ago, the actress faced criticism for selling a £57 candle with the playful name ‘This Smells Like My Vagina’ on her Goop website.

This candle began as a playful idea between perfumer Douglas Little and a friend. While developing a fragrance, she jokingly described the scent as smelling like a vagina. Surprisingly, this led to the creation of a humorous, beautiful, and uniquely alluring fragrance.

It ended up being a fantastic candle—we tested it at an In goop Health event, and it sold out in just a few hours.

This fragrance combines floral geranium and rose with bright citrus and warm cedar, creating a captivating and alluring scent that evokes a sense of fantasy and sophistication.
