Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin’s nepo baby daughter Apple, 21, poses submerged in water as she lands another high-profile fashion campaign for Self-Portrait after heated backlash over modelling gigs

The recent controversy about Apple Martin’s modeling work seems to have died down with the release of her newest photos on Thursday.

Apple Martin, the daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, is the star of a new campaign for the London fashion brand Self-Portrait.

Twenty-one-year-old Martin models the brand’s new collection of delicate lace and flowing chiffon clothing in a rural setting in upstate New York, photographed by Ryan McGinley.

The young model’s latest campaign for Self-Portrait aims to showcase a sense of carefree youth and natural beauty. Photos feature her in water, with a sweeping view of New York City in the background.

These new portraits bring Apple back together with photographer McGinley and stylist Mel Ottenberg, who both collaborated with the model on her first campaign back in September.

Han Chong, the founder and creative director of self-portrait, explained that while their initial work showcased Apple’s introduction to the creative world, this new collection of portraits reveals a more developed and thoughtful side to her personality. The images demonstrate a sense of maturity and stability, reflecting her current path and growth.

It’s been incredibly fulfilling to watch her develop professionally through this collaboration. She’s a pleasure to work with, always brings a positive energy, and has a natural flair for style that’s really exciting to see.

Martin first worked with McGinley and Ottenberg on a photoshoot in October. This followed a fashion campaign she did with GapStudio alongside her mother, though she received some criticism for leveraging her family connections and advantages to get opportunities.

The model, a student at Vanderbilt University, recently shot her first campaign after becoming the brand’s new ambassador.

It felt natural to launch with Self-Portrait; their designs instantly reminded me of London, where I grew up, and it felt like coming home right away.

I also love how beautiful and accessible the collections are! Han and the team made me feel included in the creative process, and I’m really enjoying learning from them.

I can’t wait for everyone to see this new project, and I’m thrilled to keep sharing my creative journey with you all.

Chong explained that they aimed for this new installment of their ‘Portraits’ series to build on their focus on easy, natural self-expression – a key part of their brand identity.

Apple embodies the energy of women confidently forging their own paths. It’s been truly inspiring to work with her – she’s a great example of a new generation that’s self-assured, inquisitive, and comfortable expressing themselves.

She’s friendly, understands herself well, is very professional, and has a fantastic sense of humor – we’re thrilled to have her join our team!

Martin began her fashion career in 2023, walking the runway for Chanel’s high-fashion show at Paris Fashion Week.

When she announced her partnership with Self-Portrait, many people immediately assumed she got the opportunity because of who she knows, rather than her own merits.

‘THIS is nepotism gone bad,’ wrote one disgruntled social media follower

Someone else chimed in, sarcastically expressing relief that yet another celebrity child had secured an easy, undeserved job, seemingly without any actual skill. They joked that everything was right with the world now.

One person commented, questioning how someone with seemingly no talent could be a public figure, suggesting they benefited from having famous or well-connected parents.

However, some loved the collaboration, with one posting: ‘This is excellent.’

Founded in 2013 by Han Chong, Self-Portrait is known for creating clothes that make women feel confident and capable, both during the day and for evening events. The brand aims to inspire women around the world with its easy-to-wear and stylish designs.

Martin is the latest celebrity to participate in the popular trend of sharing self-portraits, joining Emily Ratajkowski, Gigi Hadid, Naomi Campbell, Irina Shayk, Bella Hadid, Kate Moss, Jisoo, and Phoebe Dynevor.
