Gwen Stefani spills on 'almost kissing' Leonardo DiCaprio

As a dedicated follower of pop culture and entertainment, I can’t help but feel a tinge of envy when reminiscing about Gwen Stefani’s near-kiss with Leonardo DiCaprio. The story is as wild as her fashion choices, and it’s hard not to get swept up in the glamour and drama of Hollywood’s golden days.

Gwen Stefani spilled the tea on how she almost shared a steamy kiss with Leonardo DiCaprio, and the story is as ‘wild’ as her fashion choices.

On Wednesday, as she discussed her iconic style with Harper’s Bazaar, the 55-year-old singer brought up a nostalgic moment, recalling to fans that she had previously acted alongside a popular heartthrob, portraying his romantic interest on screen in the year 2004.

She admitted to the media that it never crossed my mind I’d be part of a movie. Yet, not just did I star in a film, but it was a Martin Scorsese production where I portrayed Jean Harlow, and I almost shared a kiss with Leonardo DiCaprio.

In Martin Scorsese’s biographical film, The Aviator, Gwen portrayed the famous 1930s blonde siren character, while Leonardo DiCaprio played the mysterious Howard Hughes.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be for her to share a kiss with the charming fellow. Gwen pondered with a smile, “Well, it didn’t happen.

During the filming process, where Cate Blanchett, Kate Beckinsale, and Jude Law also appeared, proved to be an exceptionally terrifying yet unforgettable chapter in Gwen’s life.

‘I didn’t have any skills, I just tried out,’ she recalled.

I visited the Bel-Air Hotel once, where it seemed like they were auditioning young women on the spot – just strolling in and giving them a try. I recall entering, performing my scene, and they were incredibly friendly. Martin made me feel completely at ease, and as a result, I landed the role!

She laughed, adding, ‘I had like 3 lines, but I got the part, okay?!’

During the production of The Aviator in 2004, Gwen was wed to Gavin Rossdale, who had been her partner for almost a decade. However, their marriage ultimately came to an end in 2016.

Contrastingly, Leonardo was renowned for his high-profile romantic involvements, particularly with models. While working on the movie, there were reports suggesting that he was in a relationship with the famous Brazilian model, Gisele Bündchen.

After sharing that she nearly played Jane Smith, the secret agent wife in the 2005 film Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Gwen relates her own acting experience.

In an interview with The Howard Stern Show back in 2016, she expressed that she was very close to securing the role. She had attended numerous auditions for it.

She added, ‘[It was] very competitive and I wanted to do it, but I wanted to do music more.’

In the end, it was Angelina Jolie who secured the part, sharing screen time with Brad Pitt, who was yet to finalize his divorce from Jennifer Aniston.

During the filming process, it’s believed that the relationship between Pitt and Jolie ignited rapidly. Eventually, Pitt parted ways with Aniston. They got married in 2014 and officially concluded their marriage in 2019.

Meanwhile, Gwen divorced Gavin Rossdale in 2016 and married Blake Shelton in 2021.

As for Leo, he’s since moved on with Italian model Victoria Ceretti.
