Guy Sebastian to take stand in trial of ex-manager over embezzlement allegations
In the upcoming court case, Guy Sebastian will appear as a witness against his ex-manager, Titus Day, who is facing charges of misappropriation of funds.
Currently, Day is on trial in the District Court of New South Wales to contest allegations that he misappropriated substantial sums of money in royalties and performance fees belonging to the artist behind the hit song “Battle Scars.
He denies the charges on all 34 counts of alleged embezzlement, committed in his role as a clerk or employee, as well as one charge for trying to unlawfully gain financial benefit through fraudulent means.
The trial started on Thursday, and it’s anticipated that Sebastian, who is 43 years old, will testify in the near future, according to a report published on Friday by The Australian.
Initially, during his tenure as a senior executive at the 22 Management Agency handling client management, Sebastian was supervised by Day, according to testimony presented on Thursday.

In 2009, Day established his own agency, 6Degrees, where Sebastian became the ‘marquee client’.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but share my take on the rumors that surfaced about their relationship. From what I’ve gathered, things seemed to take a turn for the worse between them once Sebastian stumbled upon what he suspected were unusual transactions hidden within their financial documents.
Additionally, it was alleged that Day, earning a 20% commission from Sebastian’s income post expenses, did not pass on royalties and performance fees he had received on behalf of the Australian Idol champion.
The article mentioned that one of the allegations stated that Day did not fulfill a payment obligation totaling $187,000 – a fee for his opening act role on Taylor Swift’s 2013 Australian concert tour to Sebastian.
On the opening day of Day’s trial last Thursday, the lead prosecutor, Brett Hatfield SC, told the court that Sebastian had put a great deal of confidence in his manager. However, this trust was misused when the manager allegedly stole Sebastian’s funds instead.
According to Hatfield, it’s claimed that, as Mr. Sebastian’s manager, the accused is suspected of misusing the funds entrusted to him for Mr. Sebastian. He allegedly did this by receiving Mr. Sebastian’s money and not properly transferring it according to their agreement.
In simpler terms, ‘Mr. Sebastian believes this contract placed a great deal of trust in the defendant. The prosecution claims the defendant misused this trust by fraudulently stealing Mr. Sebastian’s funds.’
Prior to the start of the trial, Day shared details about his prolonged, eight-year court case with news.com.au.
In the lead-up to the trial, Day opened up to news.com.au regarding his ongoing, eight-year legal dispute.
Or simply:
Day discussed his longstanding, 8-year-old court case with news.com.au before the trial began.

‘I also just want it over,’ he told the publication.
Besides Sebastian, Day has successfully handled a variety of prominent figures such as Grant Denyer, Sophie Monk, Tina Arena, and Stephanie Rice.
