This director is known for making several popular gangster movies. But some of his most acclaimed films were made with Jason Statham, including…
Like many directors, Guy Ritchie enjoys working with the same actors repeatedly, and Wrath of Man continued that trend. It was the fourth time he’d directed Jason Statham, and they’ve since collaborated on more projects. According to FlixPatrol, the film has become a worldwide success five years after its initial release.
The movie is doing well on Prime Video, currently ranking ninth worldwide, just above Mark Wahlberg’s Play Dirty. It reached as high as fourth place in the Dominican Republic on January 18th, and proved popular in several other South American countries. Another Jason Statham film is also performing well on the global Prime Video charts.
Guy Ritchie directed and co-wrote the screenplay for Wrath of Man with Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies. The film was inspired by the 2004 French movie Cash Truck and stars Jason Statham alongside Holt McCallany, Jeffrey Donovan, Chris Reilly, Josh Hartnett, Laz Alonso, Raúl Castillo, DeObia Oparei, Eddie Marsan, and Scott Eastwood.
The action film centers on H, a newcomer to a cash-truck team in Los Angeles. When he expertly stops a robbery, his colleagues start questioning his abilities and background. The story reveals that H has a hidden history with firearms and a mysterious past that will come to light.
Critics had a mixed reaction to the revenge thriller, giving it a 68% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 262 reviews. While they found the storyline somewhat weak, they generally enjoyed seeing Richie and Statham work together again, describing it as an exciting and entertaining action film.
Viewers really loved the film, giving the action-packed revenge thriller a 90% approval rating and a ‘Verified Hot’ badge. Critics noted it’s highly entertaining and sure to please fans of Jason Statham.
Wrath of Man did well at the box office, earning $103.9 million worldwide, according to The Numbers. While made with a $40 million budget, it just barely reached the point of being profitable. This film remains the only movie directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Jason Statham to surpass $100 million in earnings.
Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie Will Reunite Again
Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham first teamed up in 1998 for Ritchie’s directorial debut, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. They continued their collaboration with films like Snatch (2000) and Revolver (2005), before reuniting after a fifteen-year break for Wrath of Man. Most recently, they worked together again on 2023’s Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, which notably also stars Josh Hartnett, who appeared in Wrath of Man.
Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie are teaming up again for a new movie, continuing their successful partnership. The film will be based on J.J. Connolly’s novel Viva La Madness, a sequel to his earlier book, Layer Cake. Statham will star as X, a mysterious drug dealer in London, and filming is scheduled to begin later this month.
Before Viva La Madness arrives in cinemas, Jason Statham will star in the action thriller Shelter, directed by Ric Roman Waugh (known for Angel Has Fallen) and written by Ward Parry. It’s set for release on January 30th and also features Bodhi Rae Breathnach, Bill Nighy, Naomi Ackie, and Daniel Mays. Naomi Ackie recently shared her positive impressions of the film.
Wrath of Man is streaming on Prime Video and Paramount+.
