Gustavo Oviedo Creates a ‘Tropical Brainstorm’ at The Goodtime Hotel

As a gamer, I recently stumbled upon an amazing solo exhibition titled “Tropical Brainstorm” by Gustavo Oviedo, presented by Miami Art Society at The Goodtime Hotel – a Tribute Portfolio Hotel by Marriott Bonvoy. This showcase featured over 20 fresh pieces that encompassed various mediums like paintings, ceramics, and collages, along with the unveiling of Oviedo’s latest art book with the same title. It was a breathtaking experience!

Drawing on his background as a diver and underwater cameraman, Tropical Brainstorm showcases the conflict between pristine natural habitats and human-generated waste. Oviedo derived inspiration from organic shapes and marine life encountered during deep-sea exploration, consistently employing visual themes he referred to as “form families,” to reflect nature’s inherent disorder in an organized manner.

The heart of the exhibition revolved around his “Brainstorms,” which were shaped like clouds with lightning bolts and functioned as visual contemplations on improvisation, evolution, and interdependence. A companion book, spanning 96 pages, delved deeper into these topics by showcasing images of his 2024 creations, such as murals and underwater photographs.

Additionally, artist Miguel Gonzalez showcased a custom light installation harmonizing with live jazz performances, enhancing the overall multi-disciplinary and engaging atmosphere of the event. For further details, please visit The Goodtime Hotel’s website.
