As an ardent fan who grew up watching Peter Phelps grace our television screens, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia when I see him tending to his garden with a leaf blower and hose. The man who once played John Palmer on Sons and Daughters and Aussie lifeguard Trevor Cole in Baywatch is now just another neighbor in the suburbs, blending into the crowd with his thick grey beard and moustache.

On a Monday, Peter Phelps was observed working outside his residence in Sydney, appearing quite distant from the heartthrob image he had previously projected.

In the 1980s, the 64-year-old actor gained widespread recognition, particularly for playing the character John Palmer on the beloved TV series “Sons and Daughters.

He later went on to star on Baywatch, Stingers, Point Break, Wonderland, and Ned Kelly.

To start his week, Phelps spent time diligently working on the front area of his North Sydney property using a leaf blower and a hose.

The beloved TV star wore a navy Under Armour T-shirt and shorts as he went about his chores.

He added loafers to his look along with sunglasses, and appeared to be drowning out the racket with a pair of noise cancelling earphones.

Phelps blended into the suburban surrounds with a thick grey beard and moustache.

20 years ago, the Sydney father-of-two wouldn’t have been able to do this without drawing a throng of enthusiastic spectators.

Based on numerous comments on a recent post in the ‘Memory Lane – Growing up in Australia’ Facebook group, it appears that the popular ’80s celebrity continues to be well-liked.

One comment read, ‘An absolute Australian icon, he’s quite a charmer.’ He consistently delivers impressive performances, whether it’s on Sea Change, The Sting, All Saints, or Police Rescue. Is there an Australian series in which he hasn’t appeared?’

Another woman added, “He truly embodied the authentic Australian charm back then.” She continued, “His eyes were stunningly beautiful, like the deep blues of our seas.

One fan argued that they admired him then and still do now, adding that he remains handsome. Meanwhile, another fan expressed hope for more appearances of this character on Home and Away.

In this message, a group member conveyed that when he saw the individual at Perth’s Telethon event, they were following behind him in a dance called “Thank-you Very Much For Your Kind Donation-Conga Dance.” The sender explained that he needed to move some women aside who were attempting to take his spot in the conga line.

In 1984, a man mentioned that he had gone to purchase a BMW 2002 coupe in Sydney. Upon visiting the seller’s residence, which was located in the North Sydney suburbs, he discovered it was Peter Phelps – who was starring in Sons and Daughters at the time.

My girl became jelly (nervous or excited) when he emerged from the car during the test drive. He’s just as friendly and down-to-earth as he seems.

Earlier this year, images from an on-set filming captured by leaks showed the seasoned Australian actor, causing quite a stir among Home and Away enthusiasts.

Since 2022, Phelps has been playing the recurring character Gary Morrow, but his connection with Australia’s longest-running soap opera stretches back to 2007. This is when he first worked on the show, directing twenty episodes and initially appearing as Alan.

Gary tends to only re-appear in Summer Bay around big storylines.

Phelps continues to act, and most recently, he made an appearance in an episode of the miniseries titled “Plum and Roast Night,” along with one episode of “Return to Paradise.

Back in 2017, Actress Rowena Wallace from the series Sons and Daughters disclosed that she was 35 at the time she shared an intimate moment with Peter, who was 12 years younger than her and portrayed her character’s son on the show.

She mentioned that we ended up quite far away, specifically at the northern coast, where Peter resides alone in a flat close to the shoreline.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, let me share an incident from the other day. After enjoying some refreshments seaside, a friend of mine proposed an invigorating late-night dip in the ocean. In the spirit of adventure, I found myself shedding layers, down to my swimsuit essentials.

In 1984, when Rowena had reached the pinnacle of her career, with her TV series role earning her a Gold Logie award and four Silver Logies, she chose to keep quiet about their one-night encounter.

Peter has portrayed Phil North in Heartbreak High, Jose Messina in Underbelly: Tale of Two Cities, Abo Henry in Blue Murder, Peter Church in Stingers, Vince Marcello in Rescue Special Ops, and Alan Henderson during his initial tenure on Home and Away.

He lives with his wife Donna Fawkes, whom he married in 2000, and their daughters.
