Guess who? Glamorous pop superstar is unrecognisable dressed down in hoodie as she arrives in Sydney ahead of Laneway Festival gig

Chappell Roan has arrived in Sydney ahead of her hotly-anticipated gig at the Laneway Festival.

The popular American singer arrived at Sydney Airport on Sunday, and was set to perform later that night.

Going incognito, the 27-year-old was unrecognisable as she made her way across the terminal.

Chappell hid in a black University of Missouri hoodie, wearing the hood over her famous red curls.

She added a pair of faded blue jeans worn with black sneakers, and carried a grey backpack.

The singer from Pink Pony Club also had a black shoulder bag and headphones on, but didn’t seem to be carrying any luggage.

Chappell seemed to be wearing no makeup and had noticeably lightened and partially shaved eyebrows.

Okay, so she was totally surrounded by those people who always hover, but then – then – she finally pulled back her hood! And oh my gosh, her red hair! It was just… cascading away from her face, so gorgeous. I almost didn’t believe it was really her, but it was! It was absolutely her hair!

She looked very different at the airport, dressing down compared to the glamorous, fashionable outfits she usually wears on stage.

The pop star didn’t seem bothered by the controversy over her outfit at the 2026 Grammys.

She responded to criticism about her outfit after sharing photos on Instagram. She wore a sheer, burgundy Mugler gown with a bold design – it looked like it was held together with fake piercings and was very revealing.

Roan responded to criticism by playfully dismissing the outfit as not being overly shocking, writing, ‘I don’t even think this is THAT outrageous.’

‘The look’s actually so awesome and weird.’

With a playful wink, she encouraged everyone to simply be themselves and enjoy life, calling it ‘fun and silly.’ She then expressed her gratitude to the Grammys and those who voted for the nomination.

People immediately supported her online, calling her outfit “amazing” and “bold,” and celebrating her confident style.

One follower playfully commented that some people clearly haven’t seen much, and then praised her, saying she looked absolutely incredible!

The Pink Pony Club singer caused a stir on the red carpet when she took off her shawl, revealing her bare chest.

Even though her supporters defended her, many people on X (formerly Twitter) criticized Roan’s revealing outfit, with some telling her to dress more modestly.

On the red carpet, Roan admitted the attention could be overwhelming.

While speaking with Zuri Hall, she said she felt ‘a bit overstimulated’ by the frenzy of cameras.

She explained that people were secretly filming them, and she felt unsure about what the footage would be used for. She added that navigating the carpet – likely a red carpet event – was the most challenging part of the evening.

You know, I was chatting with Roan, and despite everything, she was in really good spirits! She actually told me taking a break from performing this year was… well, a total breeze for her. She said it made the whole evening surprisingly easy.

The moment came after a string of high-profile red-carpet clashes for the Grammy winner.

During the MTV Video Music Awards, she reacted sharply to a photographer who yelled at her. She later addressed another photographer at an Olivia Rodrigo concert event, asking for an apology for what she considered rude conduct.

Because of past incidents, organizers were especially careful at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony in November. An attendant even reminded photographers to stay calm before Roan arrived.

Despite not winning any awards at the Grammys, Roan was nominated for two prestigious honors – Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance – thanks to her hit song, “The Subway.”

Last year, the star was nominated for six awards and won Best New Artist.

During her acceptance speech, she advocated for better treatment and fair wages for artists.

She shared that if she ever won a Grammy and had the chance to speak to the leaders of the music industry, she would call on record labels to pay artists a fair wage and provide health insurance, particularly for those just starting out.
