Guess who! Australian TV icon shares sweet childhood throwback snap

As a dedicated follower and fan of Larry Emdur, I must say his life story is as captivating as his charming personality on screen. From being the ‘most axed man’ in the business to rescuing Matt LeBlanc from boredom at the Logies, he has truly lived an extraordinary life.

He’s the Aussie TV icon racing against the clock to tick off his ‘before 60’ bucket list.

The Bondi-born star describes himself as the ‘most axed man’ in the business and in recent weeks has been test driving a new gig on the comedy mic at Enmore Theatre.

The television character often referred to as ‘Mr. Nice Guy’ spent his harmonious childhood in the 1970s and 1980s, a period guided by the philosophy instilled by his father and role model: “Always treat people kindly.

In the year 1998, he earned the role of an unofficial Logies ambassador when he rescued the globally renowned star, Matt LeBlanc, from monotony by offering him a swiped bottle of Sambuca.

Of course, it’s The Morning Show presenter, Larry Emdur.

In a more straightforward phrase, the larrikin presenter wrote this caption alongside an old photo of himself as a toddler on Wednesday: ‘I know I’m cute now, but how cute was I back then?’

After the winner of the Gold Logie, who is 59 years old, posted a recent image from his show at The Comedy Store last week, it was published.

Star from Channel Seven disclosed in the comments that his good friend Osher Günsberg successfully persuaded him to join a special event featuring stars, where they shared their most outrageous experiences.

As I celebrate my 60th birthday next month, I’m in a hurry to complete some items from my “Before Turning 60” list. Performing comedy at The Comedy Store has always seemed like one of the scariest places on earth to me, as Larry started off.

Last night, after filling my stomach with fluttering nerves, I took the plunge. I appreciate Osher for inviting me to Story Club; it was an enjoyable experience (at least for me!).

Additionally, Günsberg and Jordan Raskopoulous from “The Ronnie Johns Half Hour” were among the other well-known figures who would take the stage at the event.

At the 2024 Logie Awards ceremony held in Sydney’s Star venue in August, Larry was awarded gold for the very first time.

For decades, an Australian TV personality has graced our screens starting from the age of 19. However, until recently, they hadn’t managed to take home a trophy from the esteemed award show.

In an extraordinary accomplishment, Larry earned the title of the most favored host by winning the Bert Newton Award at the Logies for the very first time.

Based on his revealing autobiography titled “Happy As”, it is stated that Larry’s past self would not have been present to listen to the closing speech.

Obtaining a spot at the after-party bar held a higher level of esteem for me than winning a Logie, as expressed in my 2020 publication.

In the chapter discussing the most prestigious TV night of 1998, he also shared that the “Australian Oscars” were a rather disappointing experience for invited international celebrities and largely unenjoyable for the vast majority (99.96%) of attendees.

Larry remembered, ‘They were led to believe it was similar to the Oscars for Australia. However, as I watched around an hour into the event, it became clear to me – beyond any shadow of a doubt – that it bore little resemblance to the Oscars.’

‘As in, positively, absolutely NOTHING like the Oscars.’

Larry explained how he wound up getting ‘blackout’ drunk with Friends star, Matt LeBlanc.

‘Hey man, you look bored, wanna shot?’ Larry asked the Friends star.

He forcefully made his way past his group, radiating the enthusiasm of a youthful traveler who had recently jet-setted across the globe for the Australian Oscars. Disappointed beyond words, he urgently yearned for a moment of relief.

Significantly, it was on this very night that media personality Tracy Grimshaw found herself locked out of her hotel room following an evening of tequila shots with billionaire James Packer, both being in their natural state without clothing.

Larry’s so-called “enchanting Sambuca gathering” culminated in a bout of unconsciousness, and the following day, a signed photo of Matt was found slid under his hotel room door at Crown Casino.

Upon waking up the following day, I found an attractive 8×10 photograph of Matt LeBlanc tucked under the door, accompanied by a personal note. The note read: “Dear Sylvia, it seems your husband and I had quite a night. Cheers, Matt xx”.

‘I thought it was very sweet he remembered because I kind of didn’t remember anything.’
