GTA 6 Soundtrack Licensing Offer From Rockstar For Heaven 17 Song Said to be Just $7500

GTA 6 Soundtrack Licensing Offer From Rockstar For Heaven 17 Song Said to be Just $7500

As a long-time fan of both Heaven 17 and the Grand Theft Auto series, I must say, I find Martyn Ware’s reaction quite amusing. With a career spanning decades and hits that have shaped the very landscape of synthpop, it’s a bit disheartening to see such a legendary artist being offered mere peanuts for a track that could potentially be a game-changer in GTA6.

As a devoted fan, I’m sharing some exciting news: Martyn Ware from Heaven 17 mentioned that Rockstar Entertainment proposed including their iconic ’83 hit, ‘Temptation’, in the soundtrack for Grand Theft Auto 6. However, according to Martyn himself, they were offered a modest sum of only $7,500 for the rights to the track.

In a tweet (originally from VGC), Ware mentions being contacted by publishers on behalf of Rockstar Games regarding the potential use of “Temptation” in Grand Theft Auto 6. Excited by the significant income this could bring, Ware then looked at the bottom of the email containing the offer…

It’s pointed out that Rockstar was willing to purchase all future royalties from the game for a sum of $7,500 permanently. To clarify, Grand Theft Auto 6 has already made an astonishing $8.6 billion in sales, although it won’t be released until next year. He then seemingly referred to the total revenue of the GTA franchise, possibly expressing frustration or skepticism, by saying “Go fuck yourself.

To put it simply, it’s unlikely that “Heaven 17’s Temptation” will be playing on the radio in Vice City when Grand Theft Auto 6 is released in fall 2025. If you’d like to listen to it, you can do so below instead.
