Grotesquerie went from horror thriller to family drama (speedy episode 8 and episode 9 recap)
As a long-time fan of the chilling series Grotesquerie, I must admit that I am disheartened by its recent transformation into a family drama. The show, once a thrilling blend of horror and suspense, has lost its edge and left me yearning for the gruesome episodes of old.
originally, we eagerly anticipated our weekly doses of horror and suspense from the series Grotesquerie; however, it transformed over time into more of a family-oriented drama. This wasn’t exactly the kind of experience we expected when we started watching.
Warning: Spoilers follow! Catch up on any missed episodes if you haven’t already, as there are potential spoilers coming up.
Lois has emerged from her coma and is now conscious. She’s working on learning to walk again and regaining mobility. Both Dr. Witticomb and Dr. Smythe are intrigued by her dreams and recovery process. In fact, Dr. Witticomb pays a visit to Lois’ daughter, Meritt, for assistance with his research regarding Lois’ unique case. He reveals to Meritt that Lois was fully aware of her dreams during the coma, and Dr. Witticomb believes he might be able to find a method to bring people out of a coma.
Dr. Witticomb starts questioning people who know Lois, beginning with Megan (Micaela Diamond). The goal of this inquiry is to help bring Lois’ dreams to fruition. However, it’s puzzling why Megan shifted from being a friend to becoming an antagonist for Lois. This transition occurred due to Lois suspecting that Megan aimed to take over her job.
Episode 8 further explores how Lois’ fictional characters resemble her real-life acquaintances, a connection I find rather unimportant. Frankly, it’s something that doesn’t resonate much with me. However, this theme persists throughout episode 8 and most of episode 9, save for the final 15 minutes.
As I neared the end of episode 9, Megan frantically called me for an urgent meeting at a crime scene. This chilling location held a haunting familiarity – it was the same crime scene that greeted us at the beginning of this series. The family with the boiling pot…oh, the memories! So, what’s happening here? Is there a copycat? If so, it must be someone privy to my dreams, given their uncanny resemblance.
Afterward, Lois reaches Megan’s hotel. The familiar dark orange haze appears once more, reminding us of earlier episodes. One might wonder if this is another dream for Lois. What’s going on here? Just as we and Lois are puzzled, she requests Megan to check if she’s bleeding. Megan complies, and Lois heads off to the restroom to clean up. Suddenly, Justin, Megan’s former boyfriend, bursts in, violently attacking Megan. In response, Lois emerges from the bathroom armed, ultimately shooting and killing Justin.
There is just one more installment remaining for the series, “Grotesquerie”. How do you think it will conclude its storyline? Are your anticipations running high?
