Grotesquerie star Nicholas Alexander Chavez joins I Know What You Did Last Summer

As a seasoned gamer and avid horror movie enthusiast who has survived countless virtual nightmares, I must admit that my heart skipped a beat when I heard the news about the upcoming “I Know What You Did Last Summer” sequel. The original film is a classic in the genre, and the cast list for this new installment is nothing short of impressive!

2021 has been an exceptional year for the actor Nicholas Alexander Chavez, who has just wrapped up roles in two projects by Ryan Murphy, including “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.” Exciting news is coming as he’s been cast for next year’s highly anticipated sequel to “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” according to Deadline.

Here’s one way of paraphrasing: New faces Lola Tung, Austin Nicholas, and Gabbriette are joining the cast along with some other additions. They will be part of a group that already includes Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, and Sarah Pidgeon. Camila Mendes was initially set for a role but had to back out due to scheduling issues.

In addition to the previously mentioned actors, the original lead actor Freddie Prinze Jr. is planning a comeback and will once again play Ray Bronson. He was in both the 1997 movie and its sequel from 1998 titled “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.” There are discussions underway for another actress from the first two films, Jennifer Love Hewitt, to rejoin the cast for the upcoming production, but this hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who is behind the movie “Do Revenge,” is slated to direct the upcoming film that Sony plans to launch in July 2025.

So far, no specifics about the plot have been revealed for the upcoming movie, but Robinson previously clarified that it won’t undo or rewrite the events of “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer”. This suggests that we might get some closure regarding what happened to Ray and Julie when the sequel ended with the killer pulling Julie under the bed.

To date, there have been three films adapted from Lois Duncan’s novel “I Know What You Did Last Summer”. The initial movie was released in 1997, followed by its sequel in 1998. A third film, a direct-to-video production, was later made and introduced fresh characters. In addition to these films, Amazon produced a short-lived slasher series based on the book in 2021.
