“Gritty” spy thriller that’s “an ideal watch for Slow Horses fans” gets new UK streaming home

A new conspiracy thriller starring Rami Malek will soon be added to a UK streaming service.

The movie titled “The Amateur” features Malek portraying Charlie Heller, a quiet yet intellectually gifted CIA decoder, who embarks on a dangerous mission following the death of his wife Sarah, famously known for her role as Superman’s co-star, Rachel Brosnahan.

Beginning 17th July, the highly-recommended spy thriller movie that we previously reviewed as a must-watch for “Slow Horses” enthusiasts and labeled as a classically well-made production, will be streamable in the UK on Disney+.

Shared via a joint post on social media from both the platform and movie distributor 20th Century Fox, it has been announced that the film will be streamed soon, with the tagline indicating a “time for vengeance.

Right now, the film “The Amateur” is receiving a 61% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. As described by Coming Soon, it’s a tough, personality-focused tale about a vigilante, with Malek’s acting serving as its backbone.

In the exciting turn of events, I find myself thrilled to see Laurence Fishburne stepping into the role of Charlie’s mentor, Robert ‘Hendo’ Henderson. The captivating Caitríona Balfe has also joined our storyline as an enigmatic character named Davies who communicates with Charlie anonymously. Lastly, I can’t help but feel a shiver down my spine at the arrival of Michael Stuhlbarg, portraying the chilling villain Horst Schiller.

The ensemble is completed with Jon Bernthal, known for his role in “The Bear”, taking on an intriguing portrayal of a CIA operative nicknamed ‘The Bear’. Additionally, Hacks’ Julianne Nicholson assumes the role of CIA Director Samantha O’Brien.

Littell’s novel had been made into a movie back in 1981, and one of its original leading actresses, Marthe Keller, made a brief appearance in the updated film adaptation.

The Amateur will be available to stream on Disney+ UK from 17 July.

The latest print edition from Digital Spy is available now! Grab the “Oasis – Live in ’25” issue at your local newsstands or purchase it online for only £8.99.
