“Gritty” detective drama that’s “not your average crime show” is streaming right now on Netflix

If you enjoy detective shows, you’ll be happy to hear that Netflix has a new Scandinavian series called Land of Sin. It’s a dark and realistic drama that could be perfect for a binge-watching session at the beginning of the year.

The Swedish crime series stars Krista Kosonen as Dani, a brilliant investigator who teams up with Malik (Mohammed Nour Oklah) when a young person is discovered dead on a farm.

Peter Grönlund, the creator of the acclaimed series Beartown, is also the writer and director of this new show, which is now streaming on Netflix in the UK after being added today.

What to Read Next

The story begins with the discovery of a teenage boy, Silas, dead at a farmhouse on the Bjäre peninsula. To solve the mystery, the police pair a seasoned, quick-tempered investigator named Dani with Malik, a fresh graduate just starting his career.

Dani and Malik’s investigation takes them to a remote, old-fashioned farm in the Scanian countryside, where they become entangled in a long-standing and bitter family conflict.

Dani, having a personal link to the victim Silas, becomes heavily involved in the investigation and the lives of those affected. The family’s patriarch, Elis, pressures Dani to solve the case quickly, threatening to handle things himself if she doesn’t.

Netflix describes its new series, Land of Sin, as a realistic and bleak crime drama set against a backdrop of ongoing conflict and violence. The show explores a world where the consequences of past mistakes are always felt.

This isn’t a typical crime drama,” explained Grönlund (in a statement released by Netflix). “The series delves into a much bleaker and more vulnerable world, where feelings like shame, love, and violence are deeply intertwined.

We moved beyond typical storytelling to show the lives of people on the margins – their anxieties, bonds, and how they fight to survive. It’s a realistic and immersive look into what motivates them and the hidden truths they hold close.

So, besides Kosonen and Oklah, the show’s got a really solid cast! I’ve found out it also stars Peter Gantman, Ceasar Matijasevic, Alexander Persson, Lisa Lindgren, William Jannert, Harry Westerlund, and Wilmer Rosén. I’m getting excited to see them all in action!
