”Gripping” historical drama epic hailed “one of the best” confirms exciting update for return

Disney has finally announced news about season two of Shōgun, including when filming will begin and who will be in the cast.

The critically acclaimed historical drama, which won an Emmy, arrived on the streaming service last year. It tells the story of Englishman John Blackthorne and Japanese Lord Toranaga, whose paths cross in 17th-century Japan, connected by the enigmatic noblewoman, Lady Mariko.

The show was immediately popular with audiences and made history by becoming the first Japanese-language series to win an Emmy Award for Best Drama. It also received a record-breaking 18 Emmys in a single season, more than any other show.

Good news for fans! The second season will take place over ten years after the first, and will feature both familiar faces and new cast members.

Sanada and Jarvis are returning for another installment, joining Fumi Nikaidô, Shinnosuke Abe, Hiroto Kanai, Yoriko Dôguchi, Tommy Bastow, Yuko Miyamoto, Eita Okuno, and Yuka Kouri in the cast.

Season two of Shōgun will feature several new cast members, including Asami Mizukawa (known from Rebooting), Masataka Kubota (Radiation House), Sho Kaneta (Ultraman Arc), Takaaki Enoki (Noh Mask Murders), and Jun Kunimura (The Wailing).

Filming for the second season will start in Vancouver in January, so we don’t have a confirmed release date yet.

I’m so excited to hear that Hiromi Kamata and Takeshi Fukunaga, who did such a great job directing season one of Shōgun, are coming back for season two! Plus, Anthony Byrne and Justin Marks are also going to be directing some episodes, which is awesome news. I can’t wait to see what they all bring to the table.

I was checking out who wrote season two, and it turns out a bunch of talented people were involved! Rachel Kondo, Justin Marks, Shannon Goss, Matt Lambert, Maegan Houang, Emily Yoshida, Caillin Puente, and Sofie Somoroff all had a hand in it. Pretty cool to see so many names contributing to the story.

Details about the plot of Shōgun season two are still limited, but it’s been revealed that the story jumps forward ten years after the first season. It will continue the historical saga of the two central characters whose lives are deeply connected.

This show is based on James Clavell’s popular 1975 novel, which was previously made into a miniseries in 1980.

Shōgun season 1 can be watched on Disney+ now.

The latest issue of Living Legends is now available! You can purchase Ariana & Witches at newsstands or online for only £8.99.
