“Gripping” crime drama that’s spinoff from a masterpiece police thriller jumps up UK streaming chart

The crime drama Clarice, which originally aired in 2021, is currently popular on Prime Video in the UK. It was added to the streaming service last week. The 13-episode series is a continuation of the story from the classic film The Silence of the Lambs, and follows Clarice Starling a year after the events of the 1988 book and movie.

The TV show Clarice focuses on the personal life of FBI Agent Clarice Starling as she returns to her job. Rebecca Breeds takes on the role previously made famous by Jodie Foster in the films.

The TV series Clarice, created by Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet, only lasted one season and received a mixed reaction from both critics and audiences. Many reviewers highlighted Kaley Breeds’ performance as particularly strong and captivating, while one source called it a well-made, atmospheric detective show with excellent acting.

However, The Post NZ strongly criticized the film, calling it disrespectful to a classic from the late 20th century. USA Today described it as a poor imitation that wasted the potential of the original story.

IMDb viewers had mixed reactions. Some loved the show, calling it a great new take on a well-known story and recommending it to others. Others found the first episode to be exciting and captivating, and said it made them eager to continue watching.

People immediately compared it to Hannibal, a suspenseful three-season show with Mads Mikkelsen, which was also based on the same source material.

“It’s not as great as Hannibal but it’s definitely great,” one argued.

The series Clarice is currently fifth in the UK’s most-watched shows on Prime Video. However, Sophie Turner’s new show, Steal, which came out yesterday, is quickly gaining popularity and is already in second place, right after season two of Fallout.

The highly praised 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs, starring Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster, is still the only horror movie to ever win the Academy Award for Best Picture. However, that could change soon, as Ryan Coogler’s Sinners recently earned an impressive 16 nominations at the 2026 Oscars, including a nomination for Best Picture.

Clarice is streaming on Prime Video in the UK.
