Grey’s Anatomy’s Eric Dane Gets Role In Brilliant Minds

Eric Dane, known for his role on Grey’s Anatomy, will appear in a guest spot on NBC’s Brilliant Minds. Interestingly, his character on the show will have the same medical condition that Dane himself lives with.

Dane publicly shared his ALS diagnosis in April 2025. He will play Matthew, a firefighter struggling to tell his family about his illness, and will seek guidance from Dr. Oliver Wolf, played by Zachary Quinto, in the series. Dane will appear in season 2, episode 9 of Brilliant Minds, which is scheduled to air on November 24, 2025.

Dane has openly shared his experience with ALS, and is thankful for the support and resources he receives, which aren’t available to everyone facing the disease. He’s also expressed how fortunate he feels to still be able to work and is looking forward to returning for the next season of Euphoria.

I’m grateful to be continuing my work and excited to get back to filming Euphoria next week. I would appreciate it if my family and I could have some privacy right now.

The actor also works with the nonprofit I Am ALS, founded by Brian Wallach, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2017, and his wife, Sandra Abrevaya. He shared that he wants to use his public profile to make a positive difference in people’s lives, in addition to his charitable efforts.

Dane shared with the Washington Post that many people have reached out to him with stories of losing loved ones to ALS. Despite his own difficult diagnosis and the pain others are experiencing, he focuses on finding small moments of happiness and dedicating his remaining time to supporting others. As he put it, he wants to make a difference in people’s lives, even as he faces his own challenges.

As a huge fan of shows that explore the human condition, I recently discovered Brilliant Minds. It’s a medical drama inspired by the incredible cases Oliver Sacks wrote about in his books, The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and An Anthropologist on Mars. The show centers around Dr. Wolf, a neurologist, and his team, giving us a look into both the challenges they face at work and their lives outside the hospital.

Brilliant Minds releases new episodes every Monday at 10:00 PM ET and 7:00 PM PT on NBC.
