Grey’s Anatomy star to head up rival ABC show
Grey’s Anatomy star Scott Speedman is poised to play the lead role in another ABC drama.
Actor Travis Fimmel, known for his roles as Dr. Nick Marsh and Meredith’s love interest on “Grey’s”, is slated to headline the pilot episode of detective series “RJ Decker” (according to Deadline).
The show is based on the 1987 novel “Double Whammy” penned by Carl Hiaasen, and it’s produced by Rob Doherty, who was also behind the series “Elementary.

In the new role, Speedman will portray RJ Decker, a fallen journalist and former convict, who gets a second chance at life as a detective based in South Florida.
Portrayed as quick-tempered yet endearing, RJ will tackle an assortment of peculiar cases with the aid of his journalist ex, her police detective spouse, and a mysterious benefactor – a woman from his past who holds significant influence over him, capable of either sending him back to prison or providing him with a chance at redemption through a single ticket.
Supporters of Speedman’s character on “Grey’s” can relax, as his appearance in “RJ Decker” doesn’t signal an end to his role in the lengthy medical series.
It’s anticipated that character Nick will appear again in Season 22 of Grey’s Anatomy, as his relationship with Meredith is ongoing.
Although it’s not certain if Nick will continue on the program at this point, Ellen Pompeo once mentioned that Meredith won’t be leaving any time soon.
In an interview with El País in April, Pompeo emphasized that she had no intention of leaving the show, stating that it wouldn’t be logical or sensible to do so.
She stated that it wouldn’t be logical, neither from an emotional nor a financial standpoint. In fact, she mentioned that the show had been streamed over a billion times in the year 2024.
If I were to leave entirely, others would profit off my efforts for the next 20 years without me seeing any returns,” she went on.
It seems unfair to me that others are reaping benefits from my efforts, and on an emotional level, the show holds significant value for many. I wish to express gratitude towards it in a positive manner.
In the United States, you can catch season 21 of Grey’s Anatomy every Thursday at 10pm Eastern Time on ABC. If you’re in the UK and want to watch previous seasons, they are available for streaming on Disney+.
