Actress Debbie Allen, known for her role in “Grey’s Anatomy,” has subtly suggested that the character of Dr. Catherine Fox may undergo a transformation as the storyline unfolds during Season 21.
Lately, the character hasn’t been particularly well-liked by fans, as seen by her dismissing several team members at the end of the previous season and culminating in a heated moment during the premiere of Season 21 where Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) gave her a slap.
In a conversation with Parade, Debbie revealed that Catherine took on the role of the antagonist towards the end of the previous season, and she admitted that the slap incident was indeed her idea.

Debbie told Parade that Catherine turned into the ‘bad guy’ during the last season, disclosing that it was actually her who came up with the plan for the slap.
In the opening episode of this season that I was in charge of, I suggested to showrunner Megan Marinis, ‘It would be effective if she received a slap.’ I explicitly requested for that scene to take place.
As a gamer, I exclaimed, “Indeed, Catherine’s behavior has been quite unbearable. The crowd wasn’t interested in the tender moments; they yearned for her to face some consequences. And boy, did they get their wish! It was satisfying, and honestly, she had it coming.
She commented: “I’m an actor, ready to take on any role that comes my way. Many viewers ponder about the feelings of their followers. While I may not be particularly likable, it seems someone needs to play the villain.
Instead, she proposed that Catherine could potentially recover in the future, expressing gratitude towards Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) for assisting with her health issues.
Debbie clarified that Catherine is currently absorbing a great deal of knowledge, which is beneficial for her, and she possesses the ability to undergo significant transformation.
Occasionally, those in charge tend to have a fixed perspective on how operations should be managed, stating “It must be done this way and that.” However, if they were to engage with people more or take a moment to thoroughly observe, they might discover alternative viewpoints. Catherine possesses the ability to do just that.
The upcoming season 21 of Grey’s Anatomy will air every Thursday at 10pm Eastern Time on ABC within the United States. Fans in the UK can stream previous seasons on Disney+.
