Grey’s Anatomy and Bridgerton creator describes her biggest career hurdle

Shonda Rhimes has revealed her biggest career hurdle.

I’m thrilled to be a fan who admires the creative genius behind some of my all-time favorite TV series. From the emotional rollercoaster that is Grey’s Anatomy, the captivating romance and intrigue of Bridgerton, the gripping legal drama of How to Get Away with Murder, to the political thrills of Scandal, each show leaves a lasting impact on me.

Yet, despite her current status as a beloved figure on U.S. network television, Rhimes admitted that a certain aspect of television production was not one of her strengths when she first began her career.

She admitted to Entertainment Weekly that activities such as meetings and presentations are areas where she usually struggles.

I’ve found it beneficial to allow my writing to convey its own message, as participating in meetings can often be a painful experience.

It was “Grey’s Anatomy,” which premiered in 2005, that catapulted Rhimes into fame, and it continues to run today.

She admitted that at the time, she had absolutely no background in television. She was unaware of the intricacies involved with production companies and broadcasting networks, as well as who the influential figures were within these circles.

I couldn’t make sense of anything said. However, I found the pilot very impressive, and I decided then and there that I wanted to watch it.

When Rhimes realized that “Grey’s Anatomy” would become a success, she stated, “I believe the moment we became unique in some way was when they were conducting audience tests with the pilot.

Back in the day, I’d step into the studio and there’d be a screen separating me from the crowd, with them tweaking knobs while watching the gameplay.

Indeed, that’s where we found ourselves, right in the moment, observing it unfold. The path it took just continued climbing higher and higher – never once did it descend.

A person spoke to me and remarked, “This event is unprecedented in the entire history of ABC.” Whether it truly has never occurred before in ABC’s history is uncertain, but that was their assertion to us.

“I thought, ‘Oh, so we’re doing really good’, but I still felt like a student getting my A-plus.”

The 21st season of Grey’s Anatomy is broadcasted every Thursday at 10pm Eastern Time on ABC in the United States. If you’re in the UK and want to catch up on previous seasons, they are available for streaming on Disney+.
