Grenfell Drama in Jeopardy: Will Funding Crisis Cancel This Important Project?
This month, Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner was allegedly led out of a discussion regarding Grenfell Tower’s upcoming fate following her assertion to individuals who had either survived or lost family members in the fire that the tower would be torn down.
It might upset those who have lost loved ones or survived the disaster to learn that a proposed TV series about the incident might not materialize.
As a devoted admirer of Peter Kosminsky, known for his masterpiece “Wolf Hall,” I find myself sharing his concerns. He expresses apprehension over his ability to bring his drama on the devastating Grenfell disaster to life due to the challenge of securing sufficient funds necessary to commence filming.
Approximately two years past, the BBC created a three-episode series based on the 2017 disaster in a west London housing complex, which ultimately claimed the lives of 72 individuals.
Kosminsky is currently crafting the script, but he’s growing concerned about getting financial support to produce it due to a financial predicament in British television caused by streaming companies exploiting UK tax incentives without investing significantly in distinctively British shows.
The 68-year-old BAFTA winner assertively states that dramas focusing on the Grenfell Tower fire, despite being expected to be highly intriguing for British viewers, are unlikely to captivate streaming platforms and would not be produced under any conditions according to him.

Is it possible that we are implying the notion that British TV can’t produce a captivating drama on this important topic for the British public, simply because some American streaming platforms find it unappealing and not worth financing?
Kosminky proposes a solution to alleviate the financial shortfall by mandating streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video to contribute 5% of their UK subscription earnings towards a special fund dedicated to fostering British content.
He mentions on the Roger Bolton’s Beeb Watch podcast that it would be ideal if, when we’re prepared for production, the cultural fund I referred to has already started functioning.

This month, Kay Burley left Sky News viewers in surprise as she declared during the broadcast that she was set to retire at the conclusion of the current news segment, marking the end of her 36-year career.

In the posted image, Burley has both her fingernails and toenails attended to by a beauty team from a salon in Knightsbridge, Central London. She comments on the photo with the caption: “They’re always so fabulous.” (Age: 64, profession: Broadcaster)
Upon her unexpected departure, Burley, known to have been earning approximately £600,000 annually from Sky News, stated, “Now seems the right moment for me to pursue some of my other interests.

Too busy to buy! Fashion guru Trinny’s still renting
Despite overseeing a £55 million annual international beauty empire known as Trinny London, Trinny Woodall continues to lease her living space instead of owning it.
‘I still don’t own a home,’ says the former What Not To Wear presenter, 61.
‘I sold my previous house to start up Trinny London, which I grappled with for a long time.’

Nevertheless, she’s arranged matters concerning her daughter, Lyla, who is 21 years old. She further mentions: “My future is heavily tied to Trinny London, and I now feel content with that arrangement, yet for a period, I had concerns such as, ‘If something were to happen to me tomorrow, Lyla would be left without a home.’
I withdrew funds from the business and placed them in an account that will be sufficient for purchasing a flat for Lyla. That way, should anything happen to me, she would have financial security.

On a clandestine visit to Wimbledon, ex-tennis commentator Sue Barker found herself in an unexpected predicament during her impromptu game.

In Sue’s words, she recounts, “After just 15 minutes of play, a powerful voice echoed, ‘Hurry, grab the drones!’

Wills leaves Carey’s hit in the cold

It’s likely that Prince William will need to provide an explanation when Mariah Carey takes the stage at Sandringham during the upcoming summer season.
He opted for “Feliz Navidad” over Mariah Carey’s popular tune “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, stating that it offers a unique twist to their family’s festive song preferences.
He adds: ‘I could say Mariah Carey, who I love dearly, as well.’
55-year-old Carey shares a unique connection with his mother, as he recounts: “At a gathering, I shared an extraordinary, indelible instant with Lady Di when our gazes met. In that moment, we felt like two cornered creatures in finery, deeply understanding one another.
