Gregory Orekhov’s ‘Steel Shards’ Explore Fragmented Beauty in Central Park

Amidst New York’s bustling hustle, take a moment to observe your surroundings. Everywhere you look, you’ll find a snapshot of humanity thriving. In this city where diverse paths intersect, solitude transforms into an unprecedented form of unity. This theme is central to “Steel Shards“, the latest artwork by Gregory Orekhov. His sculpture, featuring reflective stainless steel tiles over Central Park’s waters, invites us to pause and appreciate the beauty around us, much like stopping to smell the roses.

Inside these drifting fragments, you’ll find fleeting views of sky, clouds, and the pinnacles of towering buildings, interspersed with vibrant splashes of greenery. As the sun beams scatter over steel, the city seems to disintegrate and reassemble, offering a dance of delicacy and resilience.

The artwork shows a multitude of shattered shapes that echo the pulsating vitality of the city, representing both disruption and regeneration. Just like the diverse citizens who inhabit it, these mirrors cross and intermingle, though once they’ve encountered each other, they can never revert to their initial condition.

Similar to many of Orekhov’s previous creations, “Steel Shards” encourages a conversation about the coexistence of organic and industrial elements within a city, as well as the visual and cultural sceneries they foster. Akin to New York City’s unyielding spirit, this work takes solace in the notion that even the most shattered things can have a second chance at life.

As I wait with bated breath for my project to be reviewed, I continue to shape and refine it, just as a droplet patiently erodes a stone over time. For the latest details and updates, keep an eye on Orekhov’s page!
